In 2013, Google kicked off its quantum computing journey and opened the Quantum AI Lab. The following year, the company achieved its first significant milestone and demonstrated "quantum supremacy" with its 53-qubit Sycamore processor. This achievement showed the world the capabilities of quantum computers and their potential to perform certain calculations in a fraction of the time classical supercomputers can.
