The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.\nWith your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).\nAs part of the global controls team, you will work with motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, project management, and maintaining the building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS). Using Google leadership principles, you will develop new processes and standards while innovating in the controls space.\nGoogle Data centers have multiple components such as generators, UPS, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc. These components have local control systems that interact with each other via open or proprietary communications protocols. The BMS is the primary method of control of all mechanical systems within a data center. The EPMS is the primary method of monitoring all electrical systems within a data center.\nBehind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.\nIndividual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.US: $144000 - $208000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits\nLearn more about benefits at Google.\nResponsibilities\nTroubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for BMS and EPMS issues in Google data centers, providing immediate technical support, resolving quarterly maintenance actions, and supporting life-cycle operations.\nDevelop comprehensive project scopes, budgets, and schedules for BMS/EPMS improvements, overseeing the entire life-cycle from design through commissioning to ensure seamless integration and high-level operational excellence.\nReview quarterly maintenance results and conduct site visits to supervise vendor performance, ensuring strict compliance with design standards, local codes, and resolving corrective actions for in-service facilities.\nManage stakeholder deliverables and train internal customers while leading procurement, including RFQs, vendor proposal reviews, and financial management of service contracts and purchase order issuance.\nCoordinate project meetings, report status, and navigate complex requirements, requiring up to 30% site and lab travel to provide essential technical assistance and critical operational support throughout facilities.\n\nQualifications\nMinimum qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n5 years of experience working on critical infrastructure projects related to process improvements.\nExperience with mission critical systems (24x7 and no-fail) and operations (e.g., power generation, data center, refinery, chip fabrication, chemical plant processing, etc.).\nExperience implementing controls engineering.\nPreferred qualifications:\nMaster's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or in a related field.\nExperience designing, configuring, programming, installing and troubleshooting BMS and Electrical SCADA systems application specific controllers and software such as Ignition and Factory Talk.\nExperience with TCP/IP, EtherNet IP, BacNet, MODBUS, or IEC 61850 communication protocols.\nExperience with management of change, office productivity software, project management software, engineering documentation, PMS/BMS drawings, and standard operating procedures.\nAbility to cultivate strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, or customers.\n\nExcellent communication, teamwork, organizational and problem-solving skills.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4833,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":true},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Advertising","Cloud
