With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

We are seeking a Software Engineer Manager to lead the engineering team for our core commerce experiences. In this role, you will manage and mentor a team of engineers expanding protocol capabilities and launching agentic shopping features across Google surfaces. You will provide leadership, drive technical direction, and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across the consumer organization to deliver user experiences.The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

• Build and scale user experiences that leverage capabilities at Google scale.
• Lead development across the entire web stack, ensuring excellence in frontend, backend, and software quality.
• Drive technical directions across multiple teams and cross-functional partners.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to conceptualize and bring shopping features to life.
• Define and establish quality and success benchmarks using evaluation methodologies.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Experience working with artificial intelligence systems and metrics analysis.
• Track record of collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to drive product goal in a complex, matrixed organization.
