Working across internal engineering teams and external software, calibration and Tier 1 partners, you will ensure EMS systems deliver the performance, compliance, robustness and reliability expected of GMA’s high-performance vehicles.\nThe role owns the EMS outcome rather than the coding or calibration activity itself. You will provide the technical leadership and governance required to ensure externally developed solutions are fully integrated, production-ready and aligned with GMA’s engineering standards.\nThis is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering bespoke, low-volume, high-performance sports cars while working across development, vehicle integration, certification and series production.\nThe Role\nYou will be responsible for the technical delivery and governance of EMS software and calibration from concept through to certification and production. Working closely with suppliers, engineering, compliance and programme teams, you will ensure EMS solutions are technically robust, commercially controlled and fully integrated into the vehicle.\nThis is your chance to:\nOwn the EMS software and calibration delivery plan across GMA programmes.\nDefine technical requirements, scope, milestones and acceptance criteria for external suppliers.\nAct as the single point of accountability within GMA for EMS performance, maturity and regulatory readiness.\nLead and manage third-party EMS software, calibration and Tier 1 engineering partners.\nEnsure robust fault handling, fail-safe strategies and predictable degraded operating modes.\nEnsure EMS is fully integrated with vehicle systems, diagnostics and controls.\nBalance high-performance requirements with emissions, durability, reliability and warranty risk.\nEnsure compliance with applicable emissions, OBD2, diagnostics, cybersecurity and regulatory requirements.\nAct as the technical interface with internal certification teams, test houses and regulatory authorities.\nSupport emissions, SHED, climatic, proving-ground and vehicle integration testing.\nIdentify and manage technical, commercial and certification risks.\nControl supplier scope, cost and timing while avoiding short-term solutions that create technical debt.\nProvide clear technical updates to the CTO and senior programme stakeholders.\nAct as the ultimate EMS technical authority within GMA, providing leadership and decision-making under pressure.\nDrive continuous improvement across EMS development, integration, testing and supplier delivery.\nUK & International Travel\n\nRegular international travel will be required to support programme delivery and technical governance.\n\nThis will include:\nClimatic testing, including cold, hot and altitude development.\nSupplier technical reviews and development workshops.\nVehicle integration, proving-ground and issue-resolution activities.\nEmissions, certification and regulatory support.\nYou will be comfortable operating in dynamic test environments and confidently representing GMA’s technical position with suppliers and external stakeholders.\nSkills, Knowledge and Expertise\nYou'll be a technically authoritative and commercially aware powertrain engineer with extensive EMS experience, ideally gained within an OEM or Tier 1 environment and preferably within high-performance automotive applications.\n\nEssential:\nExtensive experience delivering Engine Management Systems within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 environment.\nProven experience managing externally developed EMS software and calibration.\nStrong understanding of EMS architectures, diagnostics, fault management and fail-safe strategies.\nExperience with EMS calibration, emissions testing and evaporative SHED testing.\nStrong knowledge of tailpipe emissions, evaporative emissions and OBD2 requirements.\nDeep understanding of global regulatory requirements, particularly EPA, CARB and EU/UK Small Series Type Approval.\nProven experience managing Tier 1 suppliers and engineering consultancies.\nExperience integrating EMS software and calibration into complete vehicle systems.\nStrong technical leadership, communication and decision-making skills.\nAbility to balance performance, emissions, durability, compliance, cost and programme timing.\nCommercial awareness and experience managing technical and supplier risks.\nAbility to operate effectively at engineering, programme and executive levels.\nDesirable:\nExperience within a low-volume, high-performance or specialist OEM.\nExperience with bespoke, high-RPM or multi-cylinder combustion engines.\nFamiliarity with multi-variant vehicle programmes.\nKnowledge of UN ECE R155/R156 and automotive software lifecycle requirements.\nExperience with HIL, engine dyno and virtual simulation testing.\nExperience supporting certification, conformity and regulatory approval activities.\nManagerial & Team Leadership Responsibilities\n\nYou'll provide strong technical leadership across internal teams and external partners, building effective relationships while maintaining clear accountability for EMS delivery.\nLead by example and establish strong internal and supplier relationships.\nCommunicate technical objectives, risks and priorities clearly.\nProvide confident technical direction and decision-making under pressure.\nChallenge existing processes and drive continuous improvement.\nBalance technical excellence with commercial and programme requirements.\nRemain pragmatic while being uncompromising on quality, compliance and product robustness.\nFocus on long-term engineering value rather than short-term fixes.\nShare and cascade information effectively across the engineering organisation.\n Why This Role Matters\n\nThis is an opportunity to become the technical authority responsible for ensuring the Engine Management Systems behind GMA’s high-performance vehicles deliver exceptional performance while meeting the highest standards of reliability, emissions compliance and production robustness.\nYou will work at the interface between GMA, specialist software developers, calibration partners, Tier 1 suppliers, regulatory bodies and internal engineering teams. From defining requirements and governing supplier delivery through to vehicle integration, testing, certification and production, your work will have a direct impact on vehicle performance, compliance, durability and programme delivery.\nYou'll have the opportunity to shape the EMS capability behind future GMA programmes and contribute directly to the development of some of the world's most exciting low-volume performance cars.\nBenefits\nAs well as the opportunity to work with a fantastic team, the position comes with:\nCompetitive Base Salary\nPrivate Medical Scheme\nLife Assurance\nHoliday Loyalty Bonus Scheme\nEnhanced Personal Pension Plan\nEnhanced Maternity & Paternity Pay\nCycle to Work Scheme\nSalary Sacrifice Car Lease Scheme\nParking Onsite\n\nGordon Murray Group is committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender, pregnancy, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, medical history, race, marital status, genetic information or parental status. We strive to promote a workplace that celebrates diversity and encourages individuals to express their opinions and beliefs.\nPlease do not hesitate to get in touch should you require any reasonable adjustments to assist with your application.\nAll applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7545,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Car lease"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United Kingdom","iso":"GB","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Contract Manufacturing","Automotive Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-11T07:57:04Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":29,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.638,"p_room":0.45,"age_days":45,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:1","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-26T05:57:25Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/gordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/gordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-26T18:12:49Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":24463,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-27T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":720064},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=720064"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fgordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fgordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fgordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/gordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fgordonmurraygroup-lead-engineer-ems"}]}
