As a Designer, you will help shape the next generation of AI-powered experiences used across government. You'll work on products ranging from AI assistants that support thousands of public officers to developer platforms that enable teams to build trusted AI applications.\nThis is a hands-on product design role where you'll take ideas from discovery through delivery. You'll partner closely with other designers, product managers, engineers, and data scientists to uncover user needs, prototype solutions, validate assumptions, and ship experiences that are intuitive, trustworthy, and impactful.\nWe are looking for designers who don't just produce screens, but help shape product direction through research, experimentation, collaboration, and continuous iteration.\n[What you will be working on] \nYou'll contribute across multiple AI initiatives, including:\nAI-powered assistants - Designing conversational and task-oriented experiences that help public officers work more efficiently while maintaining trust, transparency, and appropriate human oversight.\n\nAI Platforms - Improving the tools and workflows that enable government teams to build, evaluate, and deploy AI applications at scale.\n\nResearch across government - Understanding the diverse needs of ministries and agencies, translating complex workflows into simple, usable experiences.\n\nDesign systems and interaction patterns - Helping establish reusable patterns for AI interactions, ensuring consistency across products.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nUser Research & Discovery\nPlan and conduct discovery research to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points faced by public officers across agencies.\n\nDesign and run usability testing sessions to validate concepts and iterate on designs.\n\nPlan and facilitate surveys, workshops, and other participatory research methods to gather insights at scale.\n\nSynthesise research findings into actionable insights and communicate them clearly to product and engineering teams.\n\nUX & UI Design\nDesign end-to-end user experiences, covering information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity UI.\n\nDesign interactions that are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with both user needs and business objectives.\n\nBuild interactive prototypes in Figma to communicate design intent, making effective use of components and design system libraries.\n\nContribute to and maintain design systems, ensuring consistency across products.\n\nBalance user needs, technical constraints, and policy requirements when making design decisions.\n\nAI-Specific Design\nApply responsible AI design principles to surface model limitations, manage user expectations, and design for trust, transparency, and appropriate human oversight.\n\nWork with product and engineering teams to design for AI-specific interaction patterns, including prompt interfaces, streaming responses, error and fallback states, and confidence indicators.\n\nAdvocate for ethical, inclusive, and human-centred approaches to AI product design.\n\nStakeholder Communication & Collaboration\nPresent design work and research findings to a range of stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, and senior government leaders.\n\nTranslate complex requirements and feedback into a clear design direction.\n\nCommunicate confidently with senior stakeholders and navigate differing perspectives constructively.\n\nWork closely with product, data science and engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible and well-implemented.\n\nWhat we are looking for \n3-5 years of experience designing digital products, supported by a strong portfolio that demonstrates user-centred thinking and excellent visual craftsmanship.\n\nExperience taking products from discovery through delivery, partnering closely with cross-functional teams.\n\nStrong research skills, with the ability to select appropriate methods, synthesize insights, and translate findings into product decisions.\n\nExcellent interaction and visual design skills, with proficiency in Figma and modern design systems.\n\nStrong communication and storytelling skills, with the confidence to present to both technical teams and senior stakeholders.\n\nCuriosity about AI and emerging interaction patterns, with an interest in designing trustworthy human-AI experiences.\n\nAbility to thrive in ambiguity, navigate complexity, and balance competing priorities.\n\nAbility to think in systems, identifying reusable interaction patterns that scale across multiple AI products.\n\nNice to Have\nExperience designing AI-powered products, conversational interfaces, or copilots.\n\nFamiliarity with prompt engineering, LLM evaluation, or AI product development workflows.\n\nExperience working with design systems in complex product ecosystems.\n\nBasic frontend development skills (HTML, CSS, React) to support rapid prototyping.\n\nExperience with AI-assisted design and development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or ChatGPT.\n\nMotion design experience, including micro-interactions and
