General Summary

Under supervision, this position is responsible for assisting the Regional Environmental Manager with an environmental program, including all aspects of the permitting and compliance processes, and providing support on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.

Essential JobAccountabilities

  • Assist the regional environmental manager in the procurement and maintenance of all environmental permits necessary forthe operation of quarries, sand and gravel, asphalt and other related operations to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinatewithbusinessunitpersonnelatmultiplefacilitiestoensurecompliancewith alllocal,state,andfederal regulations.
  • Help maintain an environmental compliance database which coordinates compliance reports to agencies orparties,coordinates monitoring tomeetpermitconditions,andbringsallworksitefacilitiesinto compliancewithenvironmentallaws.
  • Help maintainan Environmental ManagementSystem (EMS) which coordinates legal requirements and compliance tasks, establishes environmental objectives and targets, determines roles and responsibilitiesforenvironmentalactivities, and maintains a document and record system.
  • Identifyandmonitor environmentallysignificant issuesandadvisemanagementontheappropriate action to help develop and maintain the company’s reputation as an environmental leader.
  • Works closely with the Environmental Managerandsenior stafftodevelopandimplement a comprehensive and practical environmental strategy.
  • Solves technical problems and develop solutions to meet environmental requirements.
  • Builds and maintains excellent working relationships to enhancethe company’s reputation through highly professional interaction with the general public and public officials, including those with perspectives thatarecontrarytothe company’s objectives.

Education

  • High School Diploma required
  • Current enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning such as a college or university with a discipline in EnvironmentalEngineering,EnvironmentalScience,MiningEngineering, GeologicalEngineering,MechanicalEngineering,Construction Management,orrelatedfield.

Work Experience

  • Previous environmental experience is a plus.

Knowledge,skills, and abilities

  • Must have demonstrated decision making skills.
  • General understanding of federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures.
  • Abilitytoestablishrelationships withagenciesandrepresentthe company in apublic forum.
  • Strongpublic speakingand abilitytocommunicatewith management.
  • Strongtechnicalwritingskillsnecessaryfor preparation of inspection reports, memos and other documents requiring descriptions and summaries.
  • Abilitytoworkwithalllevelsofconstructionprojectcraftsandmanagementpersonnel to successfully coordinate and complete work requirements.
