General Summary

This position is responsible for weighing customer trucks, issuing proof of purchase tickets, collecting payment, and working with internal and external customers to ensure delivery of the proper materials to their job site.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Review and make changes to the daily materials dispatch to ensure the correct materials are being delivered to the correct locations and customers.

  • Ensure all trucks entering facility tare weigh across scales prior to receiving a load of aggregate and/or asphalt concrete to make sure the site is in compliance with the State of California Weights and Measures guidelines.

  • Utilize the JWS system to ensure trucks are assigned to the proper customer, order location, product, and tare weight prior to loading, and to verify correctness after the order is filled.

  • Verify that loaded trucks are loaded correctly (i.e. not exceeding weight limits) to ensure compliance with the State Weights and measures regulations.

  • Utilize and review the dispatch menu to ensure that the correct number of trucks that were ordered by the materials dispatcher, have in fact showed up at the plant to load; add any new orders as they are received.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with plant foremen and loaders to ensure timely loading of customer’s trucks.

  • Assist the materials dispatcher with material orders when needed to ensure customer needs are met.

  • Prepare and deliver various reports to ensure company policies are met.

  • Perform routine upkeep and housekeeping duties to ensure the facility maintains a clean and professional appearance.

  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

  • Commercial or retail sales experience preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of materials business.

  • Knowledge and experience with Hot Mix Asphalt Plants preferred.

  • General understanding of Plant operations and mechanical requirements.

  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures.

  • Ability to establish relationships with agencies and represent Granite in a public forum.

  • Strong public speaking and ability to communicate with management

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Hourly employees may choose from two PPO medical plans through Anthem BlueCross, including our most popular plan, for which 100% of the premium is paid by Granite for eligible employees. Employees can also opt into a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

As part of our investment in your future outside of the workplace, Granite provides a 100% match on the first 6% of eligible compensation that salaried employees defer into their 401(k) plans, which vests immediately.

Projects with joint-venture agreements (JVs), benefits will be governed by those agreements. For positions covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBAs), the benefits will be governed by the applicable CBA.

Benefits may vary for positions located outside of the continental United States.

Base Hourly Wage Range

Hourly: $21.00 $25.00

Pay may vary based on relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors. Collective Bargaining Agreements will govern as applicable.
