Job Summary

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of commercial landscape construction, excellent analytical and numerical skills, and the ability to interpret plans and specifications to develop comprehensive project estimates. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and relationship-building skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the estimating workflow and pipeline to ensure complete, accurate proposals are submitted by bid deadlines.
  • Review RFPs, plans, specifications, addendums, and other project documents to determine scope of work and appropriate production methods.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other direct project costs.
  • Solicit, obtain, and evaluate competitive quotes from qualified subcontractors and vendors.
  • Obtain pricing for hardscape materials, plant material, irrigation, equipment, and other materials required to complete project estimates.
  • Enter and maintain bid and estimate information in Aspire.
  • Develop bid summaries and review estimates, pricing, and proposed margins with division management and senior leadership.
  • Apply established pricing and gross profit guidelines when developing project estimates.
  • Assist customers and project partners with technical information, scope clarification, and pricing throughout the estimating and pre-construction process.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, subcontractors, vendors, and other key industry partners throughout the Charlotte market.
  • Participate in pre-construction, pre-job, and post-job meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with Operations and other internal teams to ensure estimates accurately reflect project scope, production requirements, and company objectives.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying and developing relationships with prospective customers and key decision-makers.
  • Maintain organized and accurate estimating documentation and records.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial landscape construction estimating or a closely related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial landscape installation and construction methods.
  • Working knowledge of plant material and basic horticultural practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction plans, specifications, and project documents.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with customers, general contractors, developers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Professional demeanor and a customer-focused approach.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Aspire or similar landscape estimating/project management software preferred.
  • Basic understanding of business mathematics, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, Horticulture, Business, or a related field is preferred but not required.
