Backed by six Australian offices and a global network spanning more than 150 markets, we offer the scale, connections and opportunities to help you shape your future, wherever it takes you.\nAbout this role\nJoin our Digital team as a Software Engineering Manager, leading the software development team responsible for the custom applications, integrations and engineering platforms that support our business.\nYou will set the team’s technical direction while taking accountability for people leadership, delivery and operational reliability. As the principal engineering adviser to the department head, you will independently manage engineering decisions within agreed business priorities, enterprise architecture and security standards, escalating material risks and trade-offs with clear recommendations.\nThis is a hands-on leadership opportunity combining engineering strategy with practical technical involvement. You will guide complex design decisions, strengthen software development and DevOps practices, and help the team deliver secure, reliable and maintainable digital solutions.\nKey responsibilities\nLead technical design and set practical standards for applications, APIs, integrations and data access. \nTranslate business needs into technical options that balance delivery, cost, risk and maintainability. \nPlan engineering delivery, allocate capacity, manage dependencies and provide clear visibility of progress and risks. \nOwn the software development lifecycle, including code review, automated testing, quality assurance and releases. \nOversee Azure application security, reliability, performance, cost, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and observability. \nLead, coach and develop the engineering team while remaining involved in design reviews and complex problem-solving. \nSkills & experience\nExperience leading software development teams, including people management and accountability for delivery. \nStrong production experience with python and frameworks such as FastAPI or Django. \nExperience designing and operating APIs, event-driven integrations, relational databases and SQL. \nA sound understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks, including component design, state management, API integration and authentication, to guide design decisions and assess technical approaches.\nStrong DevOps experience across CI/CD, preferably Azure DevOps; infrastructure as code using Terraform or Bicep; containerisation; automated testing; and monitoring and observability. \nPractical Microsoft Azure experience across application hosting, integration, identity and networking services. \nIf you’re interested in this role but don’t feel that you match every single one of our requirements, we would still love to hear from you and explore the unique skillset and attributes that you can bring to the team.\nReach your remarkable\nAt Grant Thornton we do things differently because we understand that when you strive for better and care about what you do remarkable things are possible.
