You will work with experienced engineers on low-level and embedded firmware that supports the operation, control, and manageability of advanced compute systems.\nThis internship provides hands-on experience in firmware development, test automation, engineering experiments, and lab-based system testing in a Linux development environment. You will own clearly defined technical tasks with guidance from the team and contribute to production-quality engineering work.\nType: 12-week summer internship\n Timing: May - August (exact dates to be confirmed)\n Commitment: Full-time\nWhat You Will Do\nContribute to the design, implementation, and testing of system and embedded firmware.\nDevelop and maintain firmware and supporting software in C, C++, or Python.\nSupport firmware development and debugging in a Linux-based engineering environment.\nCreate automated tests and scripts that improve firmware validation, test coverage, and engineering efficiency.\nContribute to continuous integration and delivery workflows for firmware development and testing.\nPlan and conduct well-defined engineering experiments, record results accurately, and draw conclusions from test data.\nSupport lab setup, system configuration, hardware bring-up, and firmware testing.\nUse debugging and diagnostic techniques to investigate firmware behavior and hardware-software interactions.\nWork with engineers across firmware, hardware, silicon, systems, and software teams to reproduce and resolve technical issues.\nDocument test procedures, experimental results, software changes, and technical findings.\nFollow established engineering and coding practices, participate in reviews, and communicate progress or blockers clearly.\nWhat You Will Bring\nCurrent enrollment in, or recent completion of, a degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.\nFoundational programming skills in C, C++, or Python.\nAn understanding of computer architecture, embedded systems, firmware, or low-level software concepts.\nFamiliarity with Linux environments and command-line development tools.\nInterest in hands-on firmware development, debugging, testing, and hardware-software interaction.\nA logical approach to problem-solving and engineering investigation.\nAbility to document technical work, explain findings clearly, collaborate with engineers, and respond constructively to feedback.\nCuriosity and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and engineering methods.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAcademic, personal, or project experience developing embedded software or firmware.\nExperience with microcontrollers, embedded processors, system-level firmware, or hardware bring-up.\nExperience using lab equipment or conducting hardware-based engineering experiments.\nExperience with automated testing or scripting in Python.\nFamiliarity with Git or another version-control system.\nAwareness of continuous integration and delivery practices.\nThese qualifications are helpful, not required.
