We design advanced semiconductors, software, and data center systems that provide the specialized processing power needed to advance AI while improving the efficiency required for broad adoption.\nAs part of SoftBank Group, Graphcore belongs to a family of companies developing transformative technologies. Our U.S. engineering teams contribute to the hardware and software platforms that support the next generation of AI systems.\nThe Opportunity\nWe are looking for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to join the BMC Engineering team as a Graduate Firmware Engineer. You will develop low-level and embedded firmware that supports the operation, control, monitoring, and validation of advanced compute systems.\nYou will work with experienced firmware, hardware, systems, and software engineers throughout the development lifecycle. The role combines hands-on implementation with automated testing, lab-based debugging, hardware bring-up, and analysis of interactions between firmware and the underlying platform.\nWhat You Will Do\nDesign, implement, test, and maintain system and embedded firmware in C, C++, or Python.\nTake ownership of defined firmware features and deliver them from requirements and design through implementation, validation, and documentation.\nDevelop and debug firmware in a Linux-based engineering environment using appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques.\nCreate automated tests and scripts that improve firmware validation, test coverage, and engineering efficiency.\nContribute to continuous integration and delivery workflows for firmware development and testing.\nPlan and conduct engineering experiments, analyze test data, and communicate findings clearly.\nSupport lab setup, system configuration, hardware bring-up, and firmware validation on development platforms.\nInvestigate firmware behavior and hardware-software interactions, identify root causes, and implement verified fixes.\nWork across BMC, firmware, hardware, silicon, systems, and software teams to reproduce and resolve technical issues.\nWrite clear design notes, test procedures, change descriptions, and technical findings.\nFollow established engineering and coding practices and contribute constructively to code and design reviews.\nWhat You Will Bring\nA bachelor's or master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, completed recently or expected before the role begins.\nA strong foundation in C or C++ and working knowledge of Python or another scripting language.\nUnderstanding of computer architecture, embedded systems, firmware, and low-level software concepts.\nFamiliarity with Linux environments, command-line development tools, and version-control systems.\nExperience applying structured debugging methods to software, firmware, or hardware-software problems.\nAbility to interpret technical requirements, break work into manageable tasks, and deliver reliable results with appropriate guidance.\nClear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.\nCuriosity, sound engineering judgment, and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and development methods.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAcademic, internship, or personal project experience developing embedded software or firmware.\nExperience with microcontrollers, embedded processors, system-level firmware, or hardware bring-up.\nExperience using lab equipment to test or debug hardware-based systems.\nExperience with automated testing, Python scripting, or continuous integration workflows.\nExposure to baseboard management controllers, platform management, data center hardware, or high-speed compute systems.\nExperience debugging interfaces or interactions between hardware and software.\nThese qualifications are helpful, not required. We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every preferred qualification.\nUnited States Benefits Overview\nGraphcore offers competitive compensation and programs designed to support employees' health, financial well-being, flexibility, and development. Benefits for eligible U.S. employees may include:\nMedical, dental, and vision coverage, plus mental health, wellness, and employee assistance resources.\nA 401(k) retirement plan with company matching, together with company-provided life and disability coverage.\nPaid time off, company holidays, flexible working hours, parental leave, and learning and career-development resources.\nBenefits vary by work location, employment status, and plan eligibility and are subject to the terms of the applicable plans and company policies. This overview is not a contract or guarantee of benefits.\nEqual Opportunity and Accommodations\nGraphcore is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.\nGraphcore is committed to an inclusive and accessible hiring process. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in the application or interview process, please let the recruiting team know.\nCandidate Privacy\nPersonal information submitted during the recruiting process will be handled in accordance with Graphcore's applicable candidate privacy notices.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5497,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Flexible schedule","Parental leave","Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Semiconductors","AI Chips & Accelerators"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-24T02:04:11Z"}],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.632,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":70,"reasons":["conf:0","stale_co","velocity","win:early","comp:junior,brand"],"computed_at":"2026-09-24T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/graphcore-graduate-firmware-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/graphcore-graduate-firmware-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-24T09:35:44Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers"}}
