We're creating the infrastructure for a thriving space economy, enabling humanity to flourish beyond Earth. Our vision is bold, but we're not just dreamers; we're doers. We design and manufacture the large-scale structures and systems that will power human and robotic activity in Earth orbit and beyond. If you're ready to lay the foundations for a new era in space, embrace a culture of relentless learning and innovation, and contribute to a future where humanity's reach extends farther, Gravitics is the place for you. Let's build the future, together. \nAbout the Role \nTo build our space systems, we need an exceptional engineer to own cargo integration from initial vehicle layout through flight hardware and mission operations. \nYou will lead a team responsible for developing the cargo architecture and initial layout for a clean-sheet spacecraft, including both internally and externally mounted cargo. This includes powered and passive cargo, vehicle-level packaging and interface definition, and the detailed secondary structure required to secure and support cargo throughout the mission. \nThis is a highly cross-functional role. You will work across vehicle configuration, structures, avionics, thermal, operations, manufacturing, and mission teams to balance competing requirements and develop an integrated cargo solution. You will own the system from early trades and layout through detailed design, analysis, test, manufacturing, vehicle integration, and ultimately mission support. \nResponsibilities: \nLead the development of the vehicle's cargo architecture and layout, including internally and externally mounted powered and passive cargo. \nOwn cargo packaging and integration trades, balancing volume, mass, center of gravity, accessibility, structural load paths, thermal constraints, electrical interfaces, crew/operational considerations, and vehicle-level requirements. \nDefine and manage cargo mechanical interfaces, keep-out zones, mounting provisions, and secondary structure. \nLead a small engineering team through cargo layout, trade studies, detailed design, analysis, and hardware delivery. \nWork closely with vehicle configuration and other subsystem teams to resolve integration conflicts and drive the overall vehicle design toward closure. \nDesign secondary structures, brackets, restraints, mounting provisions, and other hardware required to integrate cargo with the vehicle. \nApply first-order hand calculations and empirical methods to rapidly assess concepts, understand load paths, and iterate designs. \nBuild and evaluate finite element models to assess structural performance and demonstrate compliance with vehicle requirements. \nDesign for relevant environments including pressure, acceleration, vibration, shock, thermal loading, and launch/landing loads. \nCreate detailed component and assembly drawings with appropriate application of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing requirements. \nDevelop structural and integration test plans, support test execution, evaluate results, and generate verification reports. \nWork directly with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to take hardware from design through production and vehicle integration. \nOwn the schedule and budget for assigned cargo integration and structural hardware. \nSupport manufacturing and integration by dispositioning non-conformances and resolving hardware issues quickly. \nServe as the technical owner and subject-matter expert for the cargo system from initial concept through mission operations. \nAbout You \nYou’re a successful candidate if you are a giver, not a taker. You have an ability to make things happen. You are exceptional at several things, yet willing to take on efforts in areas of weakness. \nRequired Attributes \n5+ years of industry experience in mechanical, aerospace, or a related engineering discipline. \nDemonstrated ownership of complex mechanical or aerospace projects from concept through hardware delivery. \nExperience with spacecraft, aircraft, launch vehicle, or other complex vehicle packaging and mechanical integration. \nStrong mechanical design fundamentals, including structural load paths, joints, interfaces, and secondary structures. \nKnowledge of relevant structural environments including acceleration, pressure, vibration, shock, and thermal loading, and experience designing hardware for these environments. \nExperience performing first-order structural analysis and using finite element analysis to support detailed design. \nExperience developing and executing structural or mechanical verification test plans. \nProficiency with CAD and engineering analysis tools such as NX and Simcenter 3D, or equivalent packages. \nStrong understanding and application of engineering drawing practices, GD&T, and ASME Y14.5. \nAbility to work effectively across structures, configuration, avionics, thermal, manufacturing, operations, and other engineering disciplines. \nDemonstrated ability to provide technical direction and lead a small team through an ambiguous, rapidly evolving design problem. \nBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field. \nBonus Points for \nExperience with spacecraft cargo, payload, or secondary-structure integration. \nExperience developing vehicle-level cargo or payload layouts from a clean-sheet configuration. \nExperience with both internally and externally mounted spacecraft hardware. \nExperience integrating powered payloads or cargo requiring electrical, thermal, or data interfaces. \nProven history of delivering flight hardware for launch vehicles, spacecraft, or other space systems. \nExperience with human spaceflight cargo requirements, including stowage, restraint, accessibility, handling, and operational considerations. \nDeep working knowledge of welded and bolted joints, structural analysis of joints, design for manufacturability, material selection, and heat-treatment processes. \nExperience supporting vehicle integration, launch-site operations, or mission operations. \nCompensation and Benefits\nYour level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the considerations of job-related knowledge and skills, education, and direct experience. Salary is just one component of the total employee package, which also includes company equity at an exciting time of company growth, as well as comprehensive medical, 401(k) retirement plan, a generous PTO policy, employee discounts, and more. \nAbout Compliance\nTo conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.\nGravitics is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are based on merit, qualifications, and business needs, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin or ethnicity, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or any other legally protected status.\nSalary Range\n$140,000—$180,000 USD","description_format":"text","description_chars":7289,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Space & Aerospace","Launch Services"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-05T17:47:28Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":21,"expected_fill_days":131,"reasons":["conf:3","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-27T05:46:45Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":180000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/gravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/gravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-27T18:35:49Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":8742,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-28T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":10245},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=10245"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fgravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fgravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fgravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/gravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fgravitics-sr-mechanical-engineer-vehicle-integration"}]}
