This is a junior role with real responsibility. You don’t need to have it all figured out from day one. You get close support, room to learn, and the trust to grow into ownership quickly.Grow into ownership of a technical workstream, such as electrode development, material screening, or CO₂ utilization performance.\nDesign, run, and iterate on electrochemical experiments for our desorption electrolyzer and CO₂ conversion.\nTake care of one or more electrochemical test stands, from cell assembly to troubleshooting and protocol improvement.\nAnalyze data, question assumptions, and turn findings into clear next-step proposals.\nStep by step, take on guiding our working students as you build confidence in the lab.\nJoin technical discussions with suppliers, research institutes, and customers, supported by experienced colleagues.\nWork with modeling, systems, and process engineering to connect lab results to scale-up decisions.\nHelp keep the lab safe, organized, and well documented.\nYour first 12 months in the roleMonth 1-3: Land and learn\nGet to know the team, our culture, and the fundamentals of our technology and lab setup.\nLearn our safety standards, documentation practices, and core analytical techniques.\nTake over a test stand and run first experiments with guidance.\nMonth 4-6: Work independentlyRun standard electrochemical test protocols independently and analyze the results.\nPropose and run your own experiments based on your findings.\nStart onboarding and supporting working students.\nMonth 7-12: Take the wheelOwn a technical workstream with measurable milestones.\nLead the day-to-day supervision of working students.\nRepresent the team in technical exchanges with external partners.\nShare your view on the roadmap: where should we go next, and why?\nAbout you\nMust-haveMaster’s degree or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, focused on electrochemistry.\n0-3 years of experience, e.g. through a PhD, thesis, internship, or first job.\nSolid knowledge of electrochemistry and its role in climate solutions.\nHands-on lab experience, ideally with electrode or catalyst preparation or electrochemical test setups.\nA curious mind that questions the status quo and brings its own ideas.\nWillingness to take ownership, make decisions, and learn from mistakes along the way.\nA structured approach and a strong eye for detail.\nFluent German and English, written and spoken.\nNice-to-haveResearch experience in CO₂ electroreduction, electrolyzers, or membrane and electrode technologies.\nExperience with data analysis and structured experiment design, e.g. DoE or Python.\nFirst experience guiding or mentoring students or interns.\nPublications or patents in a relevant field.\nInterest in CO₂ utilization and scale-up.\nWhat we offer\nA role with real ownership, where you shape your workstream and grow into more responsibility.\nClose support from experienced colleagues while you find your footing.\nDirect influence on technical direction in a deeptech company building its first commercial plants.\nFounders who invest time in building a healthy and sustainable organization.\nOpen and transparent communication on company development.\n30 days of vacation plus public holidays.\nNoteworthy points\nWorking time: Full-time, 40 hours per week.\nLocation: This role is onsite in Essen and cannot be done remotely.
