As demand for computing skyrockets, access to energy has become the defining bottleneck in the AI infrastructure race. While leading tech companies invest billions in speculative, long-term solutions that may take decades to arrive, GridCARE's Energize™ platform uses physics-based AI to identify and activate gigawatts of hidden capacity in today's electric grid - enabling hyperscalers, data center developers, and utilities to power AI infrastructure years sooner than conventional approaches and without costly upgrades.\nFounded at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability, GridCARE has assembled a world-class team spanning power systems, AI, and infrastructure, and is backed by leading climate-tech and deep-tech investors.\nAt GridCARE, you will:\nWork at the intersection of AI, energy, and infrastructure - the foundation of the next industrial revolution.\n\nPartner with hyperscalers, developers, and utilities on high-impact, real-world deployments.\n\nHelp shape a more abundant, efficient, and resilient energy future for the digital era.\n\nJoin a company defining a new category - Power Acceleration for AI.\n\nReceive competitive compensation, equity, and benefits in a fast-growth, mission-driven environment.\n\nLearn more about GridCARE:\nTechCrunch: GridCARE thinks more than 100 GW of data-center capacity is hiding in the grid\n\nUtility Dive: Portland General Electric invests in AI-powered flexibility to speed data-center connection\n\nGridCARE Raises $64 Million Series A to Create a New Category: Power Acceleration\n\nGridCARE Named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer for AI Power Innovation\n\nThe Role\nWe're hiring a Senior/Staff Backend Software Engineer who has built and run a data platform before - and wants to do it again for a problem that matters. You'll be a foundational owner of the platform behind Energize™: the shared ingestion, storage, compute, and serving layers that our modeling, product, and customer-facing teams all build on.\nThis isn't a role for someone who has only consumed a platform. We're looking for an engineer who has designed one: someone who has decided how data enters a system, defined the abstractions other engineers rely on, made the platform reliable enough that teams stop thinking about it, and lived with the consequences of those decisions in production. You'll bring that pattern recognition to GridCARE and set the technical direction for our platform on AWS.\nYou'll also build, monitor, and maintain teams of AI coding agents that accelerate how we develop and deliver software. Orchestration, observability, and scalability are central to the role.\nKey Responsibilities\nOwning the architecture and roadmap of GridCARE's data platform, treating it as an internal product with clear users, interfaces, and service levels.\n\nDesigning how data enters the platform: ingestion architecture for heterogeneous energy and grid sources, the canonical data model, and the contracts that let sources change without breaking downstream consumers.\n\nBuilding the shared foundations other teams build on - orchestration, storage layers, compute frameworks, and reusable patterns - so modeling and product engineers can ship without reinventing infrastructure.\n\nDeveloping fast, reliable APIs and distributed processing services that connect energy data, analytical models, and customer workflows.\n\nEstablishing platform standards for data quality, lineage, observability, access control, and cost management.\n\nOwning delivery from initial design through deployment and production operation, including on-call readiness and incident learning.\n\nBuilding and operating AI coding agent teams, including coordination and evaluation.\n\nShaping technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and partnering with product and domain experts to understand what the platform needs to support next.\n\nQualifications\nRequired\nPrior data platform experience: you've been a core builder or technical owner of a data platform used by multiple teams or products - not just pipelines for a single use case. Please be ready to walk us through a platform you built: what you designed, what you'd change, and how it evolved.\n\nExperience making foundational platform decisions - ingestion patterns, data modeling, schema evolution and data contracts, storage and compute layout - and carrying them through growth in data volume, sources, and users.\n\nExperience architecting and operating production backend systems, with clear judgment on design tradeoffs.\n\nExperience with distributed systems, concurrency, failure recovery, and safe migrations.\n\nHands-on AWS experience, including deployment automation, monitoring, and secure access management.\n\nStrong Python, SQL, API design, and database modeling skills.\n\nHands-on experience with modern backend and data infrastructure, such as Kubernetes, Docker, workflow orchestrators (Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster), dbt, PostgreSQL, cloud warehouses or lakehouses (Redshift, Athena, Snowflake, or Iceberg/Delta), and/or streaming or queuing systems (Kafka, Kinesis, or SQS).\n\nExperience developing ingestion and ETL/ELT pipelines into data marts and serving layers.\n\nExperience building and maintaining AI coding agent teams, including task delegation, context management, and evaluation.\n\nStrong testing, debugging, and technical communication skills.\n\nPreferred\nEarly-stage startup experience with a demonstrable deliverable: you've worked at an early-stage startup (roughly seed through Series B) and can point to something concrete you shipped there - a platform, product, or system that reached production and that customers or internal teams relied on. Tell us what you built, what it enabled, and how you measured its impact.\n\nExperience taking a data platform from early stage (0→1) to scale, or re-architecting an existing platform while keeping it running.\n\nExperience designing self-serve platform capabilities: templates, SDKs, internal tooling, or developer-experience improvements that reduced the load on the platform team.\n\nExperience with data governance at the platform level: catalogs, lineage, data quality frameworks, and fine-grained access control.\n\nFull-stack development experience, including delivering features across backend services and frontend applications.\n\nGeospatial systems, spatial databases, or location-based applications.\n\nExperience building agentic AI assistants in production: setup and tool design, guardrails, natural-language querying and response quality, evaluation, and integration with security and access-control tooling.\n\nProduction data science workflows or infrastructure as code.\n\nExperience in energy, climate tech, or other infrastructure domains.\n\nYour Approach\nThink in platforms: you build things once so others don't have to build them many times.\n\nBring a startup builder's bias for shipping: you scope tightly, deliver something real, and iterate.\n\nTake initiative and turn open-ended problems into working software.\n\nBalance ambitious ideas with practical engineering judgment.\n\nLearn from domain experts and help others succeed.\n\nExplore new ways to build with AI while taking responsibility for results.\n\nLocation\nRedwood City, CA\n\nWhat We Offer\nCompetitive salary, performance bonus, and equity.\n\nComprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.\n\nHybrid schedule: 3 days in office for collaboration, 2 days remote for focused work.\n\nAccess to leading academic, industry, and government partners in the AI-energy ecosystem.\n\nSalary Range\n$184,000 - $284,000 Total (Base & bonus)\nThis range covers Senior and Staff levels; final level, scope, and compensation will be calibrated to your experience and demonstrated impact.\nJoin us in tackling one of the most important infrastructure challenges of our time - enabling the energy foundation for the age of AI.","description_format":"text","description_chars":8008,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Power Grid","Energy AI"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-29T23:55:08Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 3","filings_12m":3,"filings_prev_12m":0,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":202500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-29T16:27:21+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:1","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-30T05:48:23Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/gridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/gridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-30T18:53:29Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":8103,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-31T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":674447},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=674447"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fgridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fgridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fgridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/gridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fgridcare-seniorstaff-backend-software-engineer-data-platform"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3491875}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"gridcare.ai","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3491875},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people);
