Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Locate Technician to join our team in Okemos, MI. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities such as gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines using specialized equipment.
• Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and other documentation to accurately identify utility locations.
• Communicate with contractors, excavators, and utility companies to coordinate safe digging practices.
• Document and report locate activities and any discrepancies or issues encountered in the field.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to utility locating and excavation safety.
• Maintain and calibrate locating equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Respond promptly to locate requests and complete assignments within established timeframes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Familiarity with utility locating equipment and technology is a plus.

Working Conditions

This position requires frequent outdoor work, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting. The Locate Technician must be able to work in all weather conditions and navigate various types of terrain safely.
