You’ll work hand in hand with Hardware, Firmware, Data and ML teams, shaping how we monitor the grid, control the fleet and deliver real-time alerts to utilities.\nThis is a high-ownership, high-impact IC leadership role for an engineer who wants their architecture decisions to matter in the physical world, where the systems you build help utilities catch hazards on the grid before they put communities and critical infrastructure at risk.\nResponsibilities\nArchitect services that stay correct and responsive as our fleet grows to hundreds of thousands of devices, designing for failure modes, graceful degradation and efficient data access.\nBuild automation into core workflows, from automatic hazard reporting to automated device health analysis and remediations for Field Operations, so our operations scale efficiently. \nOwn the technical vision for our most critical initiatives and drive the system design decisions that keep the platform reliable and secure.\nFoster a culture of ownership and a high engineering bar, with code quality, testing, observability, performance and operational excellence built in from the start.\nMentor engineers at every level, and help grow our next technical leaders.\nRequired Skills\n8+ years building and operating large-scale production systems, including scaling them through rapid growth.\nDeep experience in designing and scaling distributed data-intensive systems, overcoming reliability and performance challenges.\nProficiency in Python, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, PostgreSQL and Kafka (or similar modern stack).\nExperience mentoring engineers and seeing them grow into senior technical roles.\nStrong product sense and a passion for building products that combine software, sensors, and the physical world.\nBonus Skills\nExperience developing real-time or event-driven systems (MQTT, WebSockets, gRPC, etc.).\nFamiliarity with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or Mimir.\nBackground working in hardware-software ecosystems or IoT systems.\nThis describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way.
