As Director of Data Engineering, you will own that platform and lead the team that builds it. We moved fast to get here, and now we're building the foundation for an enterprise-level data function: cleaner models, less tech debt, and numbers everyone trusts.\nThis role is part of our remote HQ! We have a fully remote, high-trust work environment - and also come together on a biannual basis for amazing off-sites where we can connect IRL. \nIn this role, you will:\nOwn the data roadmap and company data model, with a single source of truth for core business data\nRefactor legacy jobs and tech debt so the platform scales with the business\nKeep pipelines resilient so data stays available, accurate, and trusted across the company\nManage warehouse and infrastructure cost as data volume grows\nRun our intake process and sprint cadence, prioritizing requests by business impact and staying flexible when priorities shift\nLead and coach a small team through code reviews, feedback, and clear growth paths, and get hands-on when the work needs it\nConnect new enterprise systems, such as ERP, into the warehouse\nMake the team AI-native, using AI agents for development, incident investigation, and data quality\nWe're looking for someone who:\nHas 8+ years in data architecture or data engineering, including 3+ years leading teams\nHas built and scaled cloud data platforms (BigQuery or similar)\nIs strong in SQL, Python, and dbt or a similar modeling framework\nHas deep data modeling experience and starts from business concepts before tables\nHas built data quality, governance, and monitoring practices that teams trust\nHas run sprint-based intake and prioritization for a team serving many stakeholders\nIs comfortable with ELT tools like Fivetran, Orbitrail and enterprise systems (ERP experience is a plus)\nComes from DTC or CPG (preferred)\nApproach to the role:\nStarts with the business question, then picks the simplest technology that answers it\nGets fundamentals right first: integrity, governance, observability\nTreats a trust problem in the data as urgent\nPrioritizes ruthlessly against their own time and everyone else's\nStays in the weeds when needed while leading the team\nCoaches engineers to grow into senior contributors and managers\nUses AI agents daily and teaches the team to do the same\nCompensation & Benefits:\nAt Grüns, we're committed to providing a competitive total compensation package - grounded in market data that considers our size, stage, industry, and location.
