By 2031, we aim to deliver £40 billion in annual sales, leveraging our existing strong performance momentum to significantly increase our positive impact on the health of billions of patients globally. Our Ahead Together strategy is centred on early intervention to prevent and alter the course of disease, thereby protecting people and supporting healthcare systems.\nOur diverse portfolio consists of vaccines, specialty medicines, and general medicines.\nThrough continuous innovation and a dedicated focus on scientific and technical excellence, we strive to develop and launch new, groundbreaking treatments that address critical health challenges.\nJob Purpose\nThe Platform Architect owns the technical design of GSK's local area network and campus switching platform, defining the reference architectures, patterns and standards that make solutions secure, scalable and consistent, and guiding engineering teams in applying them. The role provides design assurance across the platform's services, architects for reliability and resilience rather than treating them as later additions, and designs AI into the platform through reference patterns for AI-assisted delivery and intelligent operations.\nThe role sets standards and assures designs; it does not build. Engineering delivery sits with the platform engineering teams, backlog order sits with the Product Owner, domain target architecture and the architecture team sit with the Platform Architecture Director, and enterprise-level standards sit with Enterprise Architecture. Solution designs for major cross-domain initiatives sit with the Solution Architect in Enterprise Architecture.\nKey Responsibilities\nDefine reference architectures, patterns and standards for the platform, aligned to DPTF strategy and to enterprise architecture.\nDesign AI into the platform, producing reference patterns for AI-assisted delivery and for intelligent, self-healing operations.\nArchitect for reliability and resilience by design, so that platform SLOs and error budgets are achievable rather than aspirational.\nProvide design assurance and technical guidance to engineering teams, reviewing designs against the standards before build rather than after.\nEnsure platform solutions are secure and compliant, including GxP requirements where the platform supports regulated activity.\nEvaluate and introduce new technologies, measuring the result against architecture OKRs rather than adopting on vendor claim.\nSet architecture standards that supplier and managed-service solutions must meet, and assure their designs to the same bar as internal work.\nPartner with Enterprise Architecture and Information Security on standards, roadmaps and exceptions.\nIncrease pattern reuse across the platform, tracking where teams have adopted a pattern and where they have diverged and why.\nReduce rework by intervening early in design, and evidence the reduction rather than asserting it.\nAdvise the Product Owner and Platform Manager on the architectural consequence of roadmap choices, including technical debt being accepted.\nHold the boundaries with the Platform Architecture Director on domain target architecture, the Solution Architect on cross-domain initiative designs, and the engineering teams on build.\nKey Relationships/Customers\nBusiness Stakeholders\nBusiness stakeholders sponsoring platform capability with architectural consequence\nQuality and compliance functions where the platform supports GxP activity\nTech Stakeholders\nPlatform Architecture Director as owner of domain target architecture\nPlatform engineering teams applying the patterns and standards\nProduct Owner and Platform Manager for roadmap and backlog consequence\nEnterprise Architecture and Solution Architects for enterprise alignment\nInformation Security and Reliability Engineering for security and resilience standards\nOther\nManaged service partners whose solution designs must meet platform architecture standards\nTechnology vendors during evaluation and proof of concept\nEducation & Professional Qualifications\nDegree in a technology or engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems).\nArchitecture certifications desirable (e.g., TOGAF, or recognised cloud or network architecture certification relevant to the platform).\nArea of Specialisation\nPlatform architecture in the relevant domain, covering reference architecture, patterns, standards and design assurance.\nSecurity and resilience by design, including AI reference patterns and GxP considerations where applicable.\nExperience Required\nOverall 15 years and typically 6-8 years in technology architecture or senior engineering, including at least three years producing reference architectures or standards others build to.\nDeep hands-on depth in the relevant platform domain, whether cloud, network or digital workplace.\nExperience running design assurance or architecture review, including declining designs that did not meet the standard.\nTrack record of architecting for reliability and resilience, working to SLOs and error budgets.\nExperience designing secure and compliant solutions, ideally including GxP or another regulated context.\nExperience setting architecture standards that supplier or managed-service solutions had to meet.\nAwareness of AI reference patterns for assisted delivery and intelligent operations.\nExtensive experience designing enterprise local area network and campus switching services.\nDeep knowledge of routing, switching, quality of service, resilience, segmentation and network access control.\nEvidence of defining campus architectures that improved standardisation, security, availability or lifecycle efficiency.\nDesirable Requirements\nExpert level enterprise switching certification, such as CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure or JNCIE Enterprise Routing and Switching.\nExperience with Cisco Catalyst, Meraki, Juniper EX or Juniper Mist platforms.\nExperience with software defined campus, automation or operational technology networks.\nRelated Skills/Background\nAbility to influence engineering teams without line authority, so that patterns are adopted rather than circumvented.\nJudgement about when to grant an architectural exception and when to hold the standard.\nClear design documentation, since patterns are only reusable if others can follow them.\nComfort challenging vendor claims and evaluating technology on measured outcome.\nPragmatism about technical debt, making the cost visible rather than blocking delivery outright.\nCollaborative habit with Enterprise Architecture and Security, whose standards constrain the platform.\n Skills\nAutomation Technology, Cisco IP, Cisco Switching, Cloud Based Services, Computer Programming, Configuration Management (CM), Design Assurance, IP Address Management (IPAM), Juniper MX, LAN Architecture, Load Balancers, Network Design, Operational Technology (OT), Packet Switching, Resilience Planning, Security Engineering, Software-Defined Networking Wide Area Network (SD-WAN), System Monitors, Wireless System Design, Zero Trust ArchitectureWhy GSK?\nUniting science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together.\nGSK is a global biopharma company with a purpose to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together. We aim to positively impact the health of 2.5 billion people by the end of the decade, as a successful, growing company where people can thrive. We get ahead of disease by preventing and treating it with innovation in specialty medicines and vaccines. We focus on four therapeutic areas: respiratory, immunology and inflammation; oncology; HIV; and infectious diseases - to impact health at scale.\nPeople and patients around the world count on the medicines and vaccines we make, so we’re committed to creating an environment where our people can thrive and focus on what matters most. Our culture of being ambitious for patients, accountable for impact and doing the right thing is the foundation for how, together, we deliver for patients, shareholders and our people.\nInclusion at GSK:\nAs an employer committed to Inclusion, we encourage you to reach out if you need any adjustments during the recruitment process.\nPlease contact our Recruitment Team at to discuss your needs.\nImportant notice to Employment businesses/ Agencies\nGSK does not accept referrals from employment businesses and/or employment agencies in respect of the vacancies posted on this site.
