This role ensures reliable network performance, supports business operations, and protects systems from internal and external threats. The Network Engineer works closely with IT staff, airport tenants, construction contractors, vendors, and end users to troubleshoot issues, implement upgrades, and maintain best-practice network standards.\nResponsibilities (Essential Functions)\nInstall, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless LAN controllers, and wireless access points, ensuring scalability and high availability.\nMonitor and analyze network performance and availability; proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure high reliability and uptime.\nManage LAN, WLAN, and internet connectivity across a large, complex campus environment.\nDevelop and enforce robust network security strategies, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls aligned with industry best practices.\nPlan and execute regular network maintenance, upgrades, and patching to ensure resilience, stability, and compliance.\nTroubleshoot network outages and performance problems; provide timely resolution and detailed root-cause analysis.\nMaintain accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams, technical configurations, and standard operating procedures.\nSupport user connectivity issues and collaborate with IT staff to resolve escalated problems.\nEnsure backup, redundancy, and disaster-recovery capabilities for critical network infrastructure.\nEvaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend and implement improvements.\nCollaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve service issues and maintain SLAs for shared tenant services.\nEnsure compliance with organizational policies, industry standards and applicable security frameworks.\nParticipate in capacity planning and performance optimization for core network services.\nUtilize network monitoring and automation tools (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow, scripting) for proactive management.\nOther duties as assigned.\nEducation Requirements\nBachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).\nExperience Requirements\nMinimum 7 years of progressive experience in designing, implementing, and administering enterprise data networks with stringent high-availability and security requirements.\nExpert-level proficiency in core networking protocols and services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and advanced switching technologies.\nDemonstrated hands-on experience with enterprise-grade firewalls, VPN solutions, and implementation of comprehensive network security best practices.\nIn-depth knowledge of structured cabling systems (copper and fiber) including adherence to industry standards and best practices for cable management.\nFamiliarity with redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery strategies for network infrastructure.\nStrong documentation skills, with the ability to produce accurate and detailed network diagrams, configuration standards, and technical records.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.\nClear and professional written and verbal communication skills.\nAcute attention to detail and commitment to security.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.\nCustomer-service mindset when supporting end users.\nSupervisory Responsibility\nNone at this time.\nLicenses Required\nValid Driver’s License.\nCertifications Required (Must have or be willing and able to obtain within 180 days of employment with the District)\nCisco CCNA certification.\nCisco CCNP certification preferred.\nLatitude/Independent Judgment/Accuracy\nDiligence must be exercised when handling confidential information.\nReasonable care for equipment/process will prevent injury/damage.\nWorking Conditions\nPhysical Demand - Little physical effort required. Some light lifting, carrying, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping and kneeling requirements are necessary for up to 40% of the time. Sitting is required for 60% of the time.\nAfter-hours on-call rotation and occasional after-hours work for network maintenance or outage resolution.\nMental and or Visual Demands - Mental and visual demands vary with function performed.
