Position Overview

GTI Energy is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to serve as a senior technical authority across multiple concurrent programs. This role operates beyond project execution, owning structural design methodology, standardization, and system-level performance across product lines including BESS, modular data centers, and GenSet platforms.

The Staff Structural Engineer provides technical leadership, mentors engineering teams, and drives consistency, quality, and manufacturability across all structural deliverables. This role partners closely with Engineering Leadership and the Technical Director to solve complex challenges, improve design systems, and scale engineering practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

    System-Level Structural Ownership

  • Define and own the structural design approach across multiple programs and product lines
  • Establish standard methodologies for analysis, load cases, and structural modeling
  • Ensure consistency in structural design across BESS, modular data centers, and GenSet platforms
  • Operate as design lead and technical authority across concurrent engineering programs
  • Design Standardization & Framework Development

  • Develop, maintain, and improve structural design standards, connection libraries, and calculation templates
  • Standardize weld details, bolted connections, and structural systems for repeatability and scalability
  • Drive reuse of proven design solutions across programs
  • Improve structural design standards, analysis templates, and calculation methodologies used by the engineering team
  • Advanced Technical Problem Solving

  • Lead resolution of complex, ambiguous structural challenges impacting multiple projects
  • Make engineering judgments on non-standard or undefined design conditions
  • Provide technical direction on advanced structural analysis and design scenarios
  • Support root cause analysis for structural failures and implement long-term corrective actions
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Leadership

  • Drive structural designs that optimize fabrication, assembly, and system integration
  • Reduce manufacturing variation through standardized and production-aligned design practices
  • Partner with Mechanical, Electrical, and Manufacturing Engineering to improve build efficiency, cost, and throughput
  • Support continuous improvement of DFM practices across structural deliverables
  • Cross-Program & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Influence engineering direction across multiple teams and programs
  • Serve as the bridge between engineering leadership and individual contributors
  • Manage structural design interfaces with mechanical and electrical disciplines to ensure coordinated and manufacturable solutions
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to align structural decisions with business objectives
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) with scalable and repeatable structural solutions
  • Technical Governance & Quality

  • Enforce structural engineering standards and best practices across the organization
  • Review and approve critical calculations and designs across multiple teams
  • Perform code reviews for structural compliance
  • Ensure compliance with AISC, ASCE, IBC, and internal engineering standards
  • Review and QC drawings and calculation packages prior to release, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance
  • Performance & Optimization Initiatives

  • Lead initiatives to optimize structural designs for cost, weight, and material efficiency across product lines
  • Improve structural performance, durability, and manufacturability
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in materials, design approaches, and fabrication methods
  • Leadership, Mentorship & Team Development

  • Directly supervise structural engineers across multiple levels, providing technical guidance, workload direction, and performance feedback
  • Serve as a technical mentor and resource for the structural engineering team
  • Shape skill development roadmaps and engineering process improvements
  • Influence hiring decisions, onboarding, and performance evaluation processes for the structural team
  • Design Leadership & Customer Interface

  • Lead and facilitate engineering design meetings including kick-offs, design reviews, coordination meetings, and milestone gate reviews
  • Interface directly with customers on structural scope, design intent, and technical constraints
  • Work closely with the Technical Director on high-complexity structural challenges and engineering initiatives
  • Professional Responsibility

  • Stamp and seal structural drawings and calculations where PE licensure applies

Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10-15+ years of structural engineering experience with significant exposure to structural steel design
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a technical lead across multiple programs or product lines
  • Deep expertise in structural analysis, connection design, and steel systems per AISC and ASCE standards
  • Strong experience in design standardization, technical governance, and cross-functional engineering leadership
  • Proven ability to solve complex, ambiguous engineering problems
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
  • Experience in modular systems, prefabrication, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting BESS, modular data centers, or power generation systems
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles in fabrication-heavy environments
  • Experience influencing engineering organizations in growth-stage or high-mix manufacturing environments
