You will use your expertise in modern Java, microservices, and frontend technologies like React or Angular to create large-scale, real-time data and analytics capabilities in the public cloud. This role is a key contributor to PDO’s priorities around operational excellence and transformative innovation, directly advancing Guidewire’s mission to combine digital, core, analytics, and AI to transform how the world’s P&C insurers do business.\nJob Description\nWhat you’ll do\nDesign, develop, and operate cloud-native data platform and analytics SaaS services that are secure, scalable, and reliable, supporting PDO’s focus on operational excellence and data platform adoption. \nBuild and maintain large-scale, real-time stream processing and data ingestion systems that power analytics, data science, and reporting for our customers.\nDesign, implement, and run microservices-based solutions using modern Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot, applying microservices and domain-driven design patterns.\nContribute to intuitive, performant user experiences using modern frontend technologies (React.js or Angular, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for data and analytics workflows.\nOwn CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for your services, leveraging containers and Kubernetes to ensure fast, safe, and repeatable releases.\nTake responsibility for availability, performance, observability, and data security of your services, including triaging and resolving production issues and defects.\nMaintain secure coding practices, address application security findings, and collaborate with Security and platform teams to support strong governance and compliance goals. \nAt Guidewire, we foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and responsible use of AI-empowering our teams to continuously leverage emerging technologies and data-driven insights to enhance productivity and outcomes.\nWhat you would need to succeed:\nRequired\nDemonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.\n6+ years of relevant software engineering experience building production-grade services or applications.\nExperience designing and developing backend services in Java, ideally with Spring Boot, and familiarity with microservices and multithreading concepts.\nSolid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization techniques, especially in distributed or data-intensive systems.\nStrong programming skills in JavaScript and at least one modern frontend framework such as React.js or Angular, with solid knowledge of HTML and CSS.\nWorking knowledge of relational databases (such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) and experience with data warehousing technologies such as Amazon Redshift or equivalent.\nFamiliarity with microservices architecture patterns such as service discovery, API gateways, and domain-driven design.\nAbility to thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment, collaborating across functions and locations in a transparent, inclusive way.\nClear, respectful communication skills and a growth mindset, with a willingness to learn new tools, domains, and ways of working.\nPreferred:\nHands-on experience with AWS or another major public cloud provider (e.g., IAM, networking, managed databases, streaming services).\nExperience building and operating containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes; familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.\nExposure to building large-scale real-time data streaming or event-driven systems (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or similar).\nExperience with observability and logging stacks such as ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or equivalent tools.\nFamiliarity with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity or similar systems.\nUnderstanding of distributed systems principles (consistency, availability, durability, reliability, fault tolerance, consensus algorithms) and how to apply them in production systems.\nExperience with AWS RDS or other managed relational database services.\nYour Impact\nWe believe in clarity and setting you up for success. In your first six months, you will take ownership of one or more data platform or analytics services, deep dive into our architecture and tooling, and deliver features that enhance real-time data processing, scalability, and user experience.
