We move with urgency and believe great outcomes come from high standards.\nAbout the role\nAs an Engineering Manager on the Assessment Platform team, you will lead the technical vision and execution for the systems that power the assessments on HackerRank. This includes giving candidates the ability to work on a real world application running on dedicated VMs with an online ADE built by HackerRank. Doing this for concurrencies of up to 100K candidates is a very interesting technical challenge. You will also partner with product teams across HackerRank to embed these solutions into every product, drive the team's roadmap, and build a high-performing, growth-oriented team that delivers scalable, resilient systems.\nWhat you will do\nOwn the vision and roadmap for assessment platform, working closely with Product to shape priorities.\nArchitect systems that reliably handle 100k+ concurrent users.\nOwn delivery commitments and run the team's day-to-day execution using agile practices.\nEnsure operational excellence: reliability, incident response, security and privacy.\nHire, mentor and grow engineers, and set clear career paths for each team member.\nDefine how the team uses AI tools in development to improve quality and speed.\nPartner with Product, infrastructure and Security teams.\nWho you are\n8+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.\nStrong experience designing highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, secure distributed systems and large-scale web services.\nStrong technical leadership, with the ability to drive critical architecture discussions.\nProven record of hiring, leading and mentoring technical teams and managing stakeholder expectations.\nHands-on proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, Ruby or Node.js\nStrong hands-on proficiency in at least one of AWS or GCP.\nClear communicator who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments.\nEven better if you have\nExperience building or scaling cloud IDEs, remote dev environments, or online coding platforms, with a developer-first mindset.\nHands-on depth in containers, Kubernetes, and on-demand VM or sandboxed compute at scale.\nA track record of load testing, autoscaling, and capacity planning for spiky, event-driven traffic.\nExperience driving AI-assisted development practices across an engineering team.\nYou will thrive in this role if you\nEnjoy balancing hands-on technical contributions with people leadership.\nThink strategically about long-term platform scalability while delivering short-term results.\nComfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments.\nTake ownership end-to-end from roadmap definition to execution and team growth.\nWant to learn more about HackerRank?
