It unites us, inspires us, and challenges us to be better every day, driven by our agile, performance-focused culture.\nJOB PURPOSE:\n\nProvide senior individual-contributor technical leadership for OTC formulation science, product design, development, scale-up, technology transfer, regulatory technical support, and lifecycle management across consumer healthcare products and dosage forms.\nThe Principal Scientist, OTC Formulation is a individual-contributor technical authority responsible for shaping formulation strategy and resolving complex technical challenges across OTC consumer healthcare development programs. The role reports to the Senior Principal Scientist, OTC Product Development / Formulation Science, and operates through technical depth, cross-functional influence, senior review, governance, and mentorship rather than direct line management.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\n1. Formulation and Product Development\nDefine formulation strategy and technical development approach for complex OTC products across relevant consumer healthcare categories.\nTranslate consumer, commercial, regulatory, quality, and manufacturing requirements into robust target product profiles and formulation strategies.\nProvide senior technical leadership for dosage-form design, pre-formulation, excipient selection, active compatibility, product performance, and risk-based formulation decisions.\nResolve complex formulation challenges including palatability, dose delivery, solubility, dissolution, rheology, microbial robustness, preservative effectiveness, packaging interaction, and stability.\nEmbed QbD, design of experiments, critical quality attributes, critical process parameters, control strategy, and technical risk management into development programs.\n2. Technical Leadership and Delivery\nEnsure formulation decisions support consumer experience, labelled use, dose delivery, product performance, and OTC self-care suitability.\nPartner with Medical, Regulatory, Claims, Consumer Science, Commercial, Quality, Packaging, Supply, and external partners to support evidence readiness and product delivery.\nProvide technical review of formulation rationale, development data, stability conclusions, regulatory technical content, and lifecycle change assessments.\nContribute to innovation, external technology assessment, competitive benchmarking, design-to-value, productivity, sustainability, and lifecycle improvement opportunities.\nWhy you?\nBasic Qualifications:\nWe are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:\nMaster’s degree in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent senior technical experience may be considered.\nTypically 8-10+ years of formulation, product development, or technical leadership experience in OTC, consumer healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other regulated product environments.\nDemonstrated accountability for formulation strategy, technical problem solving, and delivery of multiple products, platforms, dosage forms, or lifecycle programs.\nProven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, work with external partners, and coach or mentor scientists through technical authority rather than formal line-management authority.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nIf you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:\nExperience supporting multiple geographic markets, APAC regulatory environments, or OTC monograph/local-standard frameworks.\nExperience with pain, respiratory, allergy, gastrointestinal, dermatology, wellness, or adjacent self-care categories.\nExperience with contract development or manufacturing organizations, external laboratories, packaging partners, or external innovation partners.\nKnowledge of QbD, design of experiments, technical risk assessment, design-to-value, sustainability, and structured problem-solving tools.\nCore Competencies:\nStrategic formulation leadership and advanced scientific judgment.\nComplex technical problem solving and risk-based decision making.\nCross-functional influence and stakeholder management.\nClear technical communication, documentation, and governance mindset.\nKnowledge sharing, and capability building as an individual contributor.\nConsumer-focused innovation, business acumen, and continuous improvement mindset.\nKey Performance Indicators\nQuality and impact of formulation strategy, technical direction, and risk-based decisions.\nDelivery of key technical milestones across development, scale-up, launch, and lifecycle programs.\nRobustness, stability, manufacturability, scalability, and consumer acceptability of developed products.\nResolution of complex formulation, process, analytical, packaging, stability, and manufacturing issues.\nQuality of technical documentation, regulatory support, control strategy, and lifecycle change assessments.\nContribution to innovation, productivity, sustainability, external technology assessment, and formulation-science capability building.\nJob Posting End Date\n2026-11-06Equal Opportunities\nHaleon are committed to mobilising our purpose in a way that represents the diverse consumers and communities who rely on our brands every day.
