This is an advisory and hands-on role for a seasoned quality professional who wants meaningful, flexible work rather than a full-time leadership position.\nOur QMS is well-established, so this role is not about building a system from scratch - it's about applying deep experience to keep it sharp: reviewing for gaps, mentoring our internal quality team, and guiding continuous improvement. A key deliverable is standing up a structured safety program and handing it off cleanly to an internal owner before the engagement ends, with documentation and training that let it run independently afterward.\nYou'll bring deep technical and quality management expertise built over a long career, and be comfortable operating independently with limited hours on-site. This suits someone who wants to stay engaged in meaningful work - mentoring, advising, and solving hard problems - without the demands of a full-time operating role.\nEssential Duties & Responsibilities\nServe as senior subject matter expert on the QMS, internal processes, and validation methodology, identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput\nMaintain and continuously improve the existing global QMS, ensuring ongoing ISO 9001 compliance and audit-readiness\nEstablish a structured safety program (policies, procedures, training framework) and hand it off to an internal owner by the end of the engagement, with full documentation and knowledge transfer\nMentor and develop internal quality (and, where relevant, safety) staff to build lasting in-house capability\nLead or support internal and external quality audits and manage relationships with external quality partners (customers and third parties)\nGuide non-conformance management (Quality and Safety) and root-cause-driven closure of CA/PAs\nAnalyze quality and safety data and advise leadership on trends and recommended actions\nEnsure production and development activities conform to current statutory and regulatory requirements\nRequired Competencies\nIntimate knowledge of ISO 9001 and the certification/audit process\nDeep, demonstrated experience applying quality management principles in an industrial OEM environment\nProven ability to mentor and transfer knowledge to less experienced staff\nSelf-directed and comfortable operating independently within a part-time schedule\nPassion for continuous improvement and internal/external customer satisfaction\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nPosition Requirements\nBS degree (preferably in a STEM field)\n15+ years of progressive experience in Quality leadership roles\nPrior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred, though this role is primarily advisory rather than people management\nExperience building, launching, or transitioning a safety or quality program to a successor or internal owner\nDesired Competencies\nStrong understanding of OSHA guidelines and reporting\nLean, Six Sigma, or RCA certification\nExperience with operations and manufacturing processes\nWorking knowledge of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU) and its conformity assessment requirements\nFamiliarity with ATEX and IECEx certification requirements for equipment used in hazardous (explosive) atmospheres\nUnderstanding of API Q1/API Q2 quality management requirements for the oil and gas industry\nFamiliarity with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 material requirements for sour service environments\nKnowledge of hazardous area classification (Class/Division and Zone systems) and its impact on product design and testing\nExposure to functional safety standards (IEC 61508/61511) as applied to instrumentation and monitoring equipment\nEngagement Terms\nApproximately 20 hours/week, with flexibility on daily schedule by mutual agreement\n6-12 month term, with the possibility of extension based on business need and fit\nOn-site at our Santa Fe Springs, CA facility -
