We offer unmatched benefits and competitive wages in a stimulating and rewarding environment.\n.\nHourly Wage: $35.82\nEssential Job Functions:\n(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)\nInstall, maintain, repair and replace overhead lines, supporting structures, signal & communications, and facility electrical/mechanical amenities along entire alignment, including but not limited to area lighting, rail switch machines, high/low voltage switch gear, HVAC, plumbing, and fire detection/prevention systems.\n\nPerforms LRT systems maintenance in assessing factors and conditions affecting maintenance/service activities and responding appropriately when these change and keep all interested and involved parties informed of matters requiring attention.\n\nAdheres to the highest quality standards while meeting original equipment manufacturer’s requirement in the performance of all job responsibilities.\n\nFollow all safety procedures and standard practices to ensure maintenance activities precede safely and efficiently.\n\nPerforms inspections of LRT systems including but not limited to overhead contact wire systems, traction power substations, building electrical/mechanical, signal, communications and other elements related to maintaining a safe operating light rail system. Submits verbal and written reports of inspection findings to the LRT Systems Supervisor. Recommends and executes immediate maintenance remedial action in maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable LRT service.\n\nCommunicates effectively with the LRT Systems Supervisor the results of LRT systems maintenance activities, and other relative information and to other Hampton Roads Transit personnel as necessary.\n\nMonitors, identifies, and corrects imminent safety hazards for Hampton Roads Transit total LRT rail system. Investigates, analyzes, and makes recommendations for correcting potential safety problems.\n\nCoordinate with contracted efforts by explaining problems and assisting contractors and Hampton Roads Transit personnel in such activities. Assist with review, and acceptance/rejection of work performance by contractors. Communicates progress of all LRT systems work activities.\n\nDevelops and delivers maintenance training to Hampton Roads Transit employees in the safe and efficient performance of maintenance, and proper operation of required maintenance equipment/tooling.\n\nAssist rail operations when needed through manually operating substation, signal communications and other LRT support equipment/systems when needed to facilitate safe, efficient, and reliable LRT service for the riding public.\n\nPerform scheduled and preventive maintenance on electric bus charging stations, troubleshoot and repair as necessary.\n\nMaintain the cleanliness of work area, substation, signal, communications, and electro/mechanical facilities interior and the immediate exterior areas.\n\nRespond to emergency service needs.\n\nOperate On Track Equipment and other maintenance equipment as required to perform maintenance activities.\n\nManage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.\n\nOther duties as assigned.\n\nRequired Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Essential to Job Functions:\nWritten and verbal communication and presentation skills. Must be able interpret and carry out verbal and written assignments.\n\nProblem analysis and resolution skills.\n\nAbility to perform maintenance repair, troubleshooting, rebuilds and overhaul of LRT systems equipment and materials.\n\nAbility to analyze malfunctions in electronic, microcomputer, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric equipment and determines repair and performs system fabrication and assembly tasks.\n\nKnowledge of technical math skills.\n\nAbility to maintain accurate records and correctly use test equipment (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, computer bases instruments, megger, wire tracer and other equipment as required).\n\nKnowledge of hardware/software configuration/troubleshooting, and networking protocols and configuration is essential.\n\nWork experience and knowledge in demonstrating the ability to diagnosis, repair, preventive maintenance, and service in one or more of the following systems, LRT traction power including Overhead Catenary System, Substations, Signals, facilities power distribution/building maintenance components and bus electric charging system’.\n\nAbility to establish and maintain good working relationships.\n\nAbility to work effectively in a team environment.\n\nAbility to manage multiple responsibilities/priorities simultaneously.\n\nMust meet established Hampton Roads Transit goals and work standards.\n\nKnowledge of and experience with electric/mechanical maintenance safety practices as they pertain to rail transportation systems.\n\nKeep updated with current laws, regulations, and developments in areas related to maintenance operations and maintenance.\n\nKnowledge of methods and procedures used to repair and maintain high and low voltage electrical switch-gear equipment.\n\nKnowledge of theory and principles of traction power, substation, signal, facility power distribution electrical and electronic equipment and circuits.\n\nKnowledge of principles and practices of electrical installation.\n\nKnowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations covering electrical installation, maintenance safety and accident prevention.\n\nAbility to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, electronic schematics, electrical and electromechanical schematics, and diagrams.\n\nRequired Software Knowledge and Skills essential to Job Functions:\nProficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.\nSoftware applications:\nEmail, Internet, Microsoft, Microsoft Windows Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HRT’s Enterprise Asset Management system for maintenance, and HRT’s Enterprise Resource Planning software for finance.\nSafety Responsibility:\nPerform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies. Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.\nQualifications:\nTraining/Education and/or Required Experience:\nAssociates Degree/Vocational Training certificate in the Electronic or Electrical technical field with a Journeymen electrician license and two (2) years of directly related experience.\n\nHigh School Diploma or GED Six (6) years of directly related industry or trade experience. Journeyman/Lineman electrical trade experience or Six (6) years rail vehicle technician experience within the past three (3) years.\n\nA combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the criterion listed above and satisfies the knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements will also be considered.\n\nLicense:\nMust have CDL Class B license and/or CDL permit and the ability to acquire within sixty (60) days of employment a valid Virginia CDL Class B license with air brake and passenger endorsements.\nSpecial Requirements:\nAbility to pass DOT physical examination.\n\nPass HRT Skills assessment(s) with a minimum 80% score for each segment.\n\nAbility to successfully complete Rail Track Equipment Training/Certification Program and rail vehicle equipment training.
