We offer unmatched benefits and competitive wages in a stimulating and rewarding environment.\n.\nHourly Wage: $28.04\nEssential Job Functions:\n(Duties listed are neither intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)\nTechnical/Mechanical:\nMaintain proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all HRT vehicles.\n\nMaintain proficiency in the removal and replacement of some components on HRT vehicles.\n\nEnsure accurate diagnosis skills and effective repair and/or replacement of component techniques necessary for the proper functioning of assigned equipment.\n\nEffectively and efficiency perform preventive maintenance inspections.\n\nEnsure the timely and effective repair of any problems identified during preventive maintenance inspections.\n\nWork to develop skill in:\nPerforming all levels of preventive maintenance.\n\nRepairing and inspecting wheelchair lifts, ramps and restraints.\n\nRepairing and adjusting torsion arms, air bags, and all other components of suspension system.\n\nTesting, repairing and/or replacing components of electrical and lighting systems.\n\nReplacing bolted and bonded body components including but not limited to glazing, mirrors, panels, stanchions and passenger seats.\n\nProperly mixing and applying body filler.\n\nRepairing and overhauling brake systems.\n\nPerform road service calls for vehicle failures.\n\nRoad testing vehicles to ensure safety and quality of work performed.\n\nPerform the duties of Helper, Servicer and Cleaner as required.\n\nAdvise supervisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time frame.\n\nOperate fork truck.\n\nAdministrative/Teamwork:\nInteract effectively, courteously, and professionally with operations department employees and other HRT employees regarding vehicle repairs and other shop business.\n\nAssume primary responsibility of assigned projects.\n\nPerform all required written and/or automated work orders and other documentation as directed.\n\nReport equipment abuse or component tampering to the shop supervisor.\n\nTrain other HRT employees in the safe and efficient performance of fleet maintenance and proper operation of required maintenance equipment/tooling.\n\nInvolved in the daily operation of the shop.\n\nPossess the ability to interpret maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams and other documents and to safely operate all company equipment.\n\nManage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.\n\nOSHA/Safety/Environmental:\nMaintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with HRT/OSHA standards.\n\nSafely uses all power and hand held mechanic tools.\n\nMaintain awareness and compliance with all current HRT, local, state, and federal regulations, such as regulations governing the handling and disposal of hazardous waste and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).\n\nPerform other maintenance duties or assignments as requested.\n\nResponsible for proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).\n\nSafety Responsibility:\nPerform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies. Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.\nQualifications:\nTraining and/or Education: \nHigh school diploma/GED required. Trade school preferred.\nRequired Experience:\nMust have three (3) years heavy duty shop experience within the past five (5) years or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Mechanical experience will be given preference over general shop experience. Must have proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all HRT vehicles and be able to read/comprehend written and electronic service information.\nLicenses or Certificates: \nMust have CDL Class B license and/or CDL Permit and the ability to acquire within sixty (60) days of employment a valid Virginia CDL Class B license with air brake and passenger endorsements.\nSpecial Requirements:\nWritten and verbal communication and presentation skills. Must be able interpret and carry out verbal and written assignments.\n\nAbility to pass DOT physical examination.\n\nAbility to meet night vision requirements.\n\nMust pass HRT’s written and technical skills assessment(s) prior to moving to the Mechanic III classification.\n\nMust meet ongoing educational, training and DOT requirements to retain employment in this position.\n\nMust be able to pass federal government background screening process for local military installation access.\n\nThis position is classified as essential personnel and as Safety-Sensitive.\n\nFLSA Status\nNon-Exempt\nPhysical Demands:\nMust be able to lift eighty (80) lbs.
