Database Architect to take ownership of the architecture, performance, reliability, and security of a Microsoft Azure SQL database environment.\n\nThis is a hands-on, project-based opportunity focused on optimizing existing database infrastructure, modernizing legacy data structures, and building scalable, secure, and high-performing database solutions.\n\nThe ideal candidate combines deep MS SQL Server and Azure SQL expertise with strong database architecture, performance tuning, and data engineering skills.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nDatabase Architecture & Modernization\n\nOwn the architecture, configuration, capacity planning, and scalability of Azure SQL environments.\n\nDesign and optimize relational data models, database schemas, and data access patterns.\n\nModernize legacy database structures, stored procedures, and database architecture.\n\nEstablish database development standards and best practices.\n\nPerformance Tuning & Optimization\n\nIdentify and resolve performance bottlenecks using execution plans, Query Store, and Extended Events.\n\nOptimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, indexing, partitioning, and statistics.\n\nMonitor and troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, and resource utilization.\n\nCollaborate with development teams to improve database performance.\n\nReliability, Security & Operations\n\nImplement and maintain high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and geo-replication strategies.\n\nManage database security, including Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, encryption, auditing, and sensitive data protection.\n\nAutomate database deployments, schema changes, and maintenance tasks.\n\nOptimize Azure SQL resource consumption and infrastructure costs.\n\nData Engineering & Integration\n\nDesign and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or similar technologies.\n\nImplement Change Data Capture (CDC) and incremental data processing.\n\nSupport database CI/CD automation and deployment workflows.\n\nCollaborate with engineering, product, and analytics teams.\n\nRequirements\n\n8+ years of commercial experience with Microsoft SQL Server as a DBA, Database Engineer, or Database Developer.\n\n3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database.\n\nStrong expertise in T-SQL, query optimization, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and statistics.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of relational database architecture, schema design, and data modeling.\n\nPractical experience with Query Store, Extended Events, and SQL performance troubleshooting.\n\nExperience with high availability, disaster recovery, backups, and database security.\n\nKnowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, encryption, and auditing.\n\nExperience with ETL/ELT, Azure Data Factory or SSIS, CDC, and incremental data processing.\n\nExperience automating database deployments and CI/CD processes.\n\nAbility to independently own database architecture and technical decisions.\n\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.\n\nNice to Have\n\nExperience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Databricks.\n\nKnowledge of dimensional modeling and data warehousing.\n\nExperience with Power BI and data governance tools.\n\nFamiliarity with Microsoft Purview, data classification, and lineage.\n\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator
