Senior Software Engineer

Join HAQQ's Engineering team as a Senior Software Engineer, owning systems end-to-end across our AI-powered legal technology platform.

As a Senior Software Engineer at HAQQ, you'll work as a senior individual contributor without a fixed layer of the stack, taking assigned problems from ambiguity to working software independently, exercising sound judgment on design and delivery, reviewing the work of colleagues, and mentoring less experienced engineers. You'll own systems, components, and feature areas from problem definition through implementation, testing, release, and ongoing operation, applying the same standard of craft regardless of the technology or product surface involved.

In This Role You Will

• Own assigned systems, components, and feature areas end-to-end, from problem definition through implementation, testing, release, and operation
• Get productive quickly in unfamiliar codebases and exercise independent technical judgment on ambiguous engineering problems
• Produce considered technical designs before major implementation, including anticipated failure conditions and alternatives considered
• Write correct, legible, tested, and instrumented code that favors simplicity over speculative generalization
• Define clear component boundaries and integrate with internal services, external providers, and partner systems

Build AI-enabled functionality, including features powered by Justinian®, that handles latency, partial output, and uncertainty gracefully

• Account for HAQQ's bilingual Arabic/English requirements, including text direction, formatting, and terminology
• Determine appropriate automated test coverage and identify edge cases and failure paths
• Review colleagues' code and technical proposals, and mentor less experienced engineers
• Partner closely with Product to define requirements and acceptance criteria
• Provide realistic estimates, build for operability and observability, and participate in on-call and production support
• Investigate and resolve production issues, contribute during incidents, and maintain accurate system documentation
• Apply secure-development practices, and handle privileged legal material and customer data with care
• Follow HAQQ's engineering processes for source control, peer review, continuous integration, and release management

You Might Thrive If You

• Several years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems from design through operation
• Comfortable working across the stack and picking up unfamiliar codebases quickly
• Strong fundamentals in testing, debugging, and secure coding practices
• Experience reviewing the work of other engineers and mentoring less experienced colleagues
• Clear written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Interest in or experience building AI-enabled product features
• Arabic/English bilingual proficiency is a plus
