Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in mechanical/piping design, involves applying advanced design techniques and analysis and a willingness to lead a design effort. This work will be performed under general supervision.\nPrimary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:\nFamiliarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.\nFamiliarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.\nRecognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.\nDeveloping the design and drafting of complex piping drawings given basic information such as P&ID’s, GA’s, piping specifications, equipment drawings, etc.\nPerforming field design work to ascertain current conditions, locate new systems, communicate with client personnel and assist in construction.\nAbility to perform survey/measurement tasks for existing equipment and piping.\nPreparing material take-offs from piping sketches for construction estimates.\nPlanning and managing your site design activities for optimum results.\nOn-site assistance during startup.\nPreparing man-hour estimates for your activities.\nProviding technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel in the department.\nCoordinating work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead.\nProducing mechanical/piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval.\nComplete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform design functions.\nIdeal Background\nEducation: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is preferred.\nCertification: SPED (Society of Piping Engineers and Designers) Certification is preferred.\nExperience: This position requires 8+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.\nRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\nKnowledge and application of piping materials.\nDesign of moderately complex process and utility piping systems, especially those systems unique to the industry being served.\nKnowledge and application of piping supports and restraints.\nFlexibility analysis of piping system.\nKnowledge of manual valve sizing, use and application.\nKnowledge of good design practices for sizing all piping systems.\nCoordination of the need, application, and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers.\nIdentification of need and application of safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systems.\nSelection/coordination of piping specialty items given the design criteria.\nDrafting of P&ID’s and GA’s.\nProvide review of vendor equipment and in-line instruments from a piping perspective.\nFamiliarity with specifications (ASTM, ASME, ANSI, etc.) and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.\nAbility to create accurate mechanical/piping installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.\nKnowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines.\nKnowledge and understanding of schedule and budget constraints and information requirements for the production of all mechanical/piping deliverables.\nAbility to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.\nAbility to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.\nKnowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.\nAbility to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.\nAbility to deliver convincing presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.\nWorking knowledge of 2D and/or 3D draft software (i.e. Plantspace, Cadworx, Autoplant, PDS, PDMS).\nProficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.\nGood communication skills, both verbal and written.\nGood presentation skills.\nKnowledge of industry standard checking procedures and ability to check small projects.\nVirtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support under general supervision.
