At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.\nEngineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience\n\nCombine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence\n\nAdvance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment\n\nAbout the Role\nSr. embedded Linux SW engineer, part of the PQRS (Production & Qualification Readiness SW) team.\nAs an embedded Linux SW engineer, you will contribute to the creation of a lightweight Linux distribution used in HARMAN to perform low-level validation and certification of the hardware used in various automotive projects. You will be challenged to find solutions that blend both hardware and software worlds to reach an optimised and streamlined design between the systems and our internal customers’ requirements.\nYou will be part of an ever-growing and ever-changing platform that will continue to evolve along with the cutting-edge tech used in Automotive. The nature of our platform gives you the chance of upgrading the existing model and challenging the status quo, as our objective is to always stay in front of the pack and develop on the latest technologies.\nOur beneficiaries are the main car makers around the world.\nWhat You Will Do\nRequirements management:\nEvaluate and estimate requirements from internal customers, ensuring a clear understanding of project needs.\n\nSW development and concepts definition:\nDevelop, maintain, and improve the custom Linux distribution and associated services used for hardware validation, manufacturing, and certification of infotainment systems.\n\nActively contribute to defining and implementing architectural concepts in collaboration with the team, aiming to maximise the reusability of software components across projects (adopting a platform-based approach).\n\nImplement user-space device \"drivers\" based on data sheet specifications and internal interfaces for various devices populated on the project PCBs. The supported devices are of the following classes: networking devices such as switches and Ethernet controllers, video serializers and deserializers, positioning devices, audio interfaces, amplifiers and controllers.\n\nProblem resolution:\nAnalyse tickets, investigate and resolve technical issues related to the PQRS work-packages. Engage with the needed subject matter experts and the team to implement effective solutions.\n\nProvide support for debugging and troubleshooting issues encountered during development, qualification, manufacturing, and certification phases. Follow through until the resolution is reached.\n\nDocumentation and code review:\nCreate and maintain comprehensive documentation for the PQRS deliverables, including user manuals and development guidelines.\n\nConduct code reviews to ensure code quality, adherence to coding standards, and best practices.\n\nCommunication, cross-team collaboration and customer-facing:\nEffectively communicate project status, challenges, and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nCollaborate with (project) managers to ensure that timelines and milestones are met.\n\nWork closely with PQRS consumers, ensuring that PQRS deliverables meet all the internal requirements, testware limitations and automotive industry standards/certifications.\n\nContinuous learning, innovation, and optimisation:\nStay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to automotive infotainment systems.\n\nFoster a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging the exploration of new technologies and methodologies.\n\nWhat You Need to Be Successful\nExtensive Linux expertise (Linux device model - system level, userspace interaction with devices, boot sequence).\n\nStrong programming skills in the Python language\n\nProven experience with Automotive products (preferably infotainment systems).\n\nHands-on experience with embedded HW (Automotive SoCs, microcontrollers, serializers/deserializers, BT/WiFi chips, amplifiers, tuners, A2B chips).\n\nAbility to bring up domain-specific devices based on technical documentation (at least one of the following: serializers/deserializers, BT/WiFi chips, amplifiers, tuners, A2B chips)\n\nKnowledge of low-level concepts (e.g., familiar with kernel, BSP, communication protocols - e.g., I2C, SPI)\n\nUnderstanding of embedded hardware schematics and concepts\n\n5+ years of experience as a software engineer and programming under Linux and for Linux\n\nSource control systems experience (preferably Git)\n\nGood English communication skills, both written and verbal\n\nFAQ: Why Python for embedded development?\nOur main deliverable is a custom Linux distribution for hardware validation and production, but our core contribution lies in the user-space drivers and control layers we build on top of it.\nWe choose Python because:\nWe are working in user space, not kernel space - Python is ideal for building portable, high-level drivers and orchestration tools.\n\nIt enables fast development, cleaner code, and easier onboarding and maintenance.\n\nOur SoC platforms have sufficient resources, so Python’s overhead is not a limitation.\n\nBonus Points if You Have\nKnowledge in the area of video-specific HW (serializers/deserializers) and video stack is highly appreciated\n\nExperience in building custom embedded Linux distributions (Yocto or similar)\n\nGood programming skills in scripting languages (Bash or similar)\n\nRUST enthusiast\n\nFamiliarity with Python-based web frameworks (Django or FastAPI)\n\nEmbedded systems hardware architecture knowledge\n\nExperience with Atlassian tools suite (JIRA, Confluence)\n\nBachelor’s degree in computer science or other relevant (IT-related) specialisations.\n\nWhat Makes You Eligible\nWillingness to travel (0-20% of time), depending on the project necessities.\n\nAvailability to work both remotely (0-2 days/week) and from the office (3-5 days/week)\n\nWhat We Offer\nFlexible work environment\n\nAccess to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)\n\nExtensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University\n\nCompetitive wellness benefits\n\n“Be Brilliant” employee recognition and rewards program\n\nAn inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development\n\nHARMAN is proud to be an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard torace, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7744,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"Upper-Intermediate (B2)","optional":false}]},"benefits":["Continuous learning","Flexible schedule"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Romania","iso":"RO","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Consumer Electronics","Manufacturing","Car Electronics","Automotive Components"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-23T17:44:37Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":12,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.426,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":110,"expected_fill_days":33,"reasons":["conf:4","stale_co","velocity","win:tail","crowd:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-28T05:59:10Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/harman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/harman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-28T10:05:00Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":13160,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-29T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":6265},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=6265"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fharman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fharman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fharman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/harman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fharman-international-embedded-linux-sw-engineer-2"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":1151227}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"harman.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":1151227},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
