This role is primarily focused on SQL Server, data warehousing, stored procedures, database performance, SQL jobs, and the data access layer. The successful candidate will also be able to follow data up the stack and occasionally make targeted changes in the C#/.NET and React applications that consume that data.\nThis role requires someone who can take ownership of ambiguous data problems, investigate independently, ask focused questions when blocked, and drive work to completion without heavy day-to-day direction.\nWhat you will do\nMaintain and improve the complex stored procedures that build the warehouse tables.\nOptimize database performance for large datasets exceeding 300 million rows using indexing, query tuning, execution plan analysis, partitioning strategies, and other SQL Server performance techniques.\nMaintain, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL Server Agent jobs, including job scheduling, failure analysis, retry behavior, dependency review, and performance impact.\nUnderstand how the data is used throughout Gridline products and be able to identify upstream impacts.\nAbility to understand, analyze, and summarize complex telematics data using SQL.\nMaintain source control of SQL code using Git.\nParticipate in Agile ceremonies in 2 week sprints.\nUse Azure Dev Ops for workflow.\nUser Claude or Cursor to assist in writing code, solving problems, and reviewing work.\nSQL Server administration - roles, users, schema management, backups, recovery.\nMinimal SSIS/SSRS work.\nAnalyze telematics and safety data to provide actionable insights to customers.\nMaintain and help improve web, console, and API based solutions using appropriate languages while helping to drive the improvement of internal coding standards and best practices.\nWrite software to integrate complex data from external APIs/sources.\nEnsure the robustness, performance, and failure characteristics of the system.\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:\nExceptional Microsoft SQL Server skills, including table design, advanced stored procedure development, data warehousing, SQL Server Agent jobs, database tuning, and performance management for large datasets exceeding 300 million rows across multiple database servers and databases. \nMust be able to solve complex SQL and data analysis problems by working from raw data to identify meaning, patterns, metrics, summary information, and data-quality issues, while also being able to debug stored procedures, analyze execution plans, and communicate findings clearly.\nMust be knowledgeable about Database Projects and Data-tier Application Packages (DACPACs) for SQL source control and deployment.\nMust be a self-starter who can independently investigate unfamiliar systems, prioritize the next useful step, document findings, and communicate blockers clearly without requiring step-by-step direction.\nExceptional problem solving & debugging skills.\nGood object-oriented programming skills\nFamiliarity with the consumption and presentation of API data\nStrong analytical and documentation skills\nN-tier design and programming\nExposure to big data/large language models a plus\nReact experience a plus\nWhat are we looking for\nBachelor’s degree in CS, MIS or CIS or related field or equivalent job-related experience.\n7+ years of primarily T-SQL focused experience in production SQL Server environments.\n3+ years of C# experience, with the ability to make targeted changes in applications, services, APIs, or console processes that interact with SQL Server data.\n1+ years .NET 6+ or later.\n1+ years in an Agile environment\n1+ years Azure Dev Ops using Git.\nExperience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools to assist with coding, troubleshooting, documentation, or code review is preferred.\nSQL Server administration experience, including roles, users, schema management, backups, and recovery.\nExperience working with telematics, CAN bus, or other complex data\nExperience supporting SQL Server production environments with large datasets exceeding 300 million rows, multiple database servers/databases, and SQL Server Agent jobs.\nExperience designing, maintaining, debugging, analyzing, and improving complex SQL and data solutions for production systems.\nExperience with Database Projects and Data-tier Application Packages (DACPACs) for SQL source control and deployment.\nExperience building or supporting data integration applications that move, transform, or reconcile data from external APIs or source systems.\nLimited SSRS and SSIS experience preferred.\nReasonable Accommodation\nReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nSupervisory Responsibility\nNone\nWork Environment\nThis job operates in a clerical, office setting.
