The successful candidate will be based in either Ho Chi Minh City or Jakarta. Given the regional scope of the position, periodic travel between these locations will be required.\nWhat will you do\nThe Lead Mechanical Engineer will guide the design and delivery of resilient, high-performance mechanical systems for mission-critical data centres across Southeast Asia. As the mechanical technical authority, you will lead all design stages-from concept through detailed engineering and construction support-ensuring robust cooling and thermal management solutions that meet Tier and global MCF standards. You will work closely with the MEP Design Manager, Project Manager, and multidisciplinary teams, while mentoring regional engineers and upholding strong technical governance.\nServe as the mechanical technical authority for data centre projects, ensuring resilience, compliance, and technical excellence.\nLead the design and coordination of critical cooling systems: chilled water plants, cooling towers/dry coolers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, and heat-rejection systems.\nDevelop and review cooling plant capacity calculations, load assessments, diversity strategies, and energy-efficiency approaches (PUE/WUE).\nOversee thermal modelling and coordinate CFD analysis.\nCollaborate with the MEP Design Manager, Project Manager, and Controls teams to ensure integrated mechanical-controls functionality.\nLead mechanical design reviews to ensure quality, constructability, maintainability, and compliance with local codes and global mission-critical standards (Uptime Institute, TIA-942, ASHRAE).\nEstablish mechanical standards, best practices, and QA/QC processes for the MCF team.\nPrepare and review technical specifications, reports, and employer’s requirements.\nReview contractor submissions, shop drawings, and proposals; support procurement and tender evaluations.\nRepresent the company in client meetings, workshops, FATs, and site testing & commissioning.\nMentor and develop mechanical engineers, supporting capability building across the APAC MCF team.\nContribute to business development through technical input, presentations, and strategic initiatives.\nMaintain strong collaboration with global teams (NL, GER & UK).\nManage and deliver mechanical work packages across multiple projects.\nWhere you will work\nAt Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, decarbonisation of industry, and sustainable mobility.\nWhat you bring\nTechnical Competencies\nBachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.\n10+ years of multidisciplinary design and project delivery experience.\nProven experience in mission-critical facilities, ideally hyperscale or colocation data centres.\nExpertise in chilled water plant design (chillers, cooling towers/dry coolers, pumps, expansion systems, distribution networks).\nStrong knowledge of CRAH/CRAC systems, in-row cooling, airflow management, and white-space thermal performance.\nDemonstrated understanding of redundancy strategies (N+1, 2N, 2N+1).\nSolid knowledge of ASHRAE guidelines, Uptime Institute and TIA-942 standards.\nFamiliarity with energy-efficiency optimisation (PUE, WUE).\nExperience coordinating thermal modelling and CFD analysis.\nAbility to develop mechanical control philosophies in collaboration with Controls Engineers.\nExperience preparing technical specifications, employer’s requirements, and tender documentation.\nProficiency with relevant design tools (e.g., IES, Revit or equivalent).\nStrong understanding of international standards for mechanical systems in mission-critical environments.\nExperience reviewing contractor submissions and supporting procurement, FAT, SAT, and commissioning.\nExperience working with international clients and multidisciplinary teams.\nFluent in English, with strong communication skills.\nUptime Institute ATD/ATS certification (or similar) is an advantage.\nPersonal Attributes\nStrong technical authority with sound engineering judgement.\nStrategic, solutions-oriented mindset.\nCommercially aware and able to balance project constraints.\nConfident communicator who can influence senior stakeholders.\nCollaborative leader with mentoring ability.\nCalm, decisive, and effective under pressure.\nWhat we offer you\nWorking with us means growing your skills through impactful projects across Indonesia, Vietnam, and globally.
