However, please note that Hatch is based in California, so we just ask that you're available during PST/PDT hours.\nThe Opportunity\nHatch is looking for a Mobile Engineering Director to own mobile engineering across our entire product portfolio consisting of 4 teams: Adult, Kids, Foundations, and Growth. You'll manage our mobile engineering managers, set architecture and technical direction across teams, foster a culture of product-focused engineering, and make sure the org has the resourcing, escalation paths, and cross-team coordination it needs to ship. Engineering Managers own day-to-day delivery, and you own the accountability, direction, and connective tissue that keeps mobile engineering coherent across a broad and growing product line.\nWhat You'll Do\nWithin 1 month:\nTake over management of the mobile engineering managers, and start building the relationships and 1:1 cadence to support them \nEstablish yourself as the owner of the weekly Mobile Strategy meeting \nGet oriented across all four teams - Adult, Kids, Foundations, and Growth - and understand current resourcing, roadmap, and delivery status in each team\nUnderstand existing AI strategy and opportunities on the mobile team\nBegin building relationships with Product and Design partners across the pillars, and start to foster a product engineering mindset across the team\nWithin 3 months:\nOwn resourcing, escalation, and overall direction for mobile delivery and architecture \nTake team-level accountability for cross-platform (iOS and Android) strategy, and for individual mobile delivery across the org \nOversee direction for software quality in partnership with QA \nStart shaping architecture governance and the architectural review process, including how staff/principal technical leverage is applied across teams \nOwn hiring pipeline direction, including interviewing and hiring decisions for open mobile roles\nBring a mobile capacity view into roadmap planning\nBegin to set direction for AI adoption and tooling efficiency across the mobile org\nEstablish strong working relationships and operating rhythms with Product and Design partners across the pillars, and build a product engineering culture across the team\nAfter 6 months:\nLead architecture governance and the ADR process end to end, including calling the bets that affect roadmap or resourcing\nSet Mobile Health direction and strategy\nDefine the approach to AI adoption and tooling efficiency across the mobile org\nOwn staff development and feedback across the mobile org, including promotion decisions and escalations, and actively develop current and future engineering leads\nChampion recognition and culture for the mobile team, and build project management / product-engineering capability across teams\nAs capacity allows, pick up select mobile IC work off the critical path to stay current \nEstablish a robust cross-functional operating model for Mobile: how the organization plans, prioritizes, and coordinates with Product, Design, Analytics, and other key stakeholders\nWhat You'll Bring\nThe Essentials\nSubstantial experience leading mobile engineering organizations, including managing engineering managers \nA track record of setting technical direction and architecture governance across multiple concurrent product lines or teams \nComfort operating through delegation - you set direction and hold accountability without needing to be hands-on in every workstream \nStrong cross-functional communication skills, including experience representing engineering to Product and Design partners, as well as executive stakeholders \nExperience building hiring pipelines and developing engineering leads\nThe Mindset We Love\nA builder's mindset: comfortable with ambiguity and competing priorities across a broad remit \nA product engineering mindset: we’re building out the best possible experience for our users, and we expect engineers to play an active role from ideation through implementation\nCollaborative spirit: you make everyone around you better \nClear communication: you can explain complex, cross-team tradeoffs simply\nWhy You’ll Love Working at Hatch\nWe’re a certified Great Place to Work\nWe help people sleep better.
