Apply today!\nSenior Mining Engineer / Study Manager\nPosition Summary\nHatch is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer / Study Manager to join our Mining & Metals team in Johannesburg.\nThis is a senior, client-facing role combining mining engineering technical expertise with the leadership and management of multidisciplinary mining studies. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing technically robust, practical and commercially sound solutions for mining projects across the project development lifecycle.\nThe role will involve leading and contributing to conceptual, scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, working across both greenfield and brownfield mining projects and coordinating inputs from multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.\nThe successful candidate will bring together strong mining engineering fundamentals, practical operational understanding, study management capability and the ability to engage confidently with clients and senior stakeholders.\nKey Responsibilities\nMining Engineering & Technical Leadership\nLead and contribute to mining engineering aspects of multidisciplinary mining studies and projects.\nDevelop and review technically sound mining concepts, strategies and development options.\nProvide input into mine design, mine planning, production strategies, operating philosophies and project development decisions.\nEvaluate alternative mining methods, development strategies and project configurations to identify practical and value-adding solutions.\nIntegrate mining requirements with geotechnical, geological, processing, infrastructure, mechanical, electrical and other engineering disciplines.\nReview technical assumptions, design criteria, risks and opportunities associated with mining projects.\nProvide senior technical review and guidance to mining engineers and project teams.\nSupport value improvement and optimisation initiatives throughout the study lifecycle.\nEnsure mining solutions appropriately consider safety, constructability, operability, maintainability and overall project economics.\nStudy & Project Management\nLead mining studies through the appropriate phases of project development, including conceptual/scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility stages.\nDevelop and manage study scopes, execution plans, resource requirements, schedules and budgets.\nCoordinate multidisciplinary teams across mining, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction planning, environmental and other supporting disciplines as required.\nEstablish clear study objectives, deliverables, interfaces and accountabilities.\nMonitor study progress, costs and schedule performance and proactively address deviations.\nLead technical reviews, design reviews, risk assessments and value optimisation activities.\nCoordinate the preparation and review of study reports, recommendations, cost estimates and supporting documentation.\nEnsure studies are delivered to the required technical quality and meet client expectations.\nManage interfaces between the client, Hatch project team and external stakeholders.\nFacilitate workshops and technical review sessions with clients and multidisciplinary teams.\nClient & Business Development\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients across the mining industry.\nUnderstand client business drivers and translate these into effective study and project solutions.\nParticipate in client presentations, workshops and technical discussions.\nSupport the preparation of proposals, expressions of interest, study estimates and execution strategies.\nIdentify opportunities for additional work and support Hatch's broader business development activities.\nRepresent Hatch as a trusted technical and study management advisor.\nQualifications & Experience\nThe ideal candidate will bring:\nA Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.\nSignificant professional experience within the mining industry, with exposure to mining consulting, engineering or EPCM environments strongly preferred.\nDemonstrated experience in the development and delivery of mining studies.\nStrong knowledge of the mining project development lifecycle from early-stage concept through PFS/FS and into project execution.\nPrevious experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.\nStrong understanding of mine planning, mine design, production scheduling and mining project economics.\nExperience across underground and/or open-pit mining environments, depending on project requirements.\nExperience working across multiple commodities would be advantageous.\nStrong understanding of project scope, schedule, cost, risk and quality management.\nProfessional registration, or eligibility for professional registration, would be advantageous.\nStrong experience in
