You will take end-to-end ownership of critical production features-from designing high-performance Go microservices and data pipelines to crafting slick native mobile experiences.\nThis is not a generalist role where mobile or backend is an afterthought. We need someone who has run backend services at scale and independently shipped native iOS or Android apps to production.\nThe backend for this project is built in Go. Go experience is a plus, not a requirement: strong backend engineers who haven’t used it yet will pick it up on the job.\nYou will be working in an engineering-oriented fast-paced environment, with minimal management and detailed task definition. You need to be a self-starter and excel at making your own decisions and organizing your work according to the declared goals.\nThis is a remote position with working hours that must align with Pacific Time (PT) business hours.\nYou will\nEnd-to-End Ownership: Design, build, deploy, and maintain robust services across the entire stack-API design, database modeling, migrations, event flows, and mobile UI/UX implementation.\nScale & Reliability: Architect high-concurrency backend systems in Go capable of handling significant request volumes and data throughput, bringing the design and scaling experience you’ve built in other languages if Go is new to you. Participate in on-call rotations for systems you build.\nClient-Server Architecture: Define and maintain robust client-server contracts, managing API versioning, offline syncing state, idempotency, retries, and auth lifecycles.\nNative Mobile Engineering: Develop and maintain mobile features using modern native frameworks (Swift/SwiftUI or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) and push updates to the App Store or Google Play.\nTechnical Communication: Write clear Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), system design specs, and deliver thorough, actionable code reviews.\nYou have\n6+ years of professional experience building production software.\n6+ years of production backend experience in Go, Java, Kotlin, Python, Rust, Node/TypeScript, Scala, C++ or a similar language, used as your primary backend language (not just as a secondary or “familiar with”). We’re prioritizing engineers whose primary backend background is in languages like these; this role is not the right fit for backgrounds centred mainly on C#/.NET.\nProven Scale: Track record of building and operating backend services at scale, backed by real production metrics (RPS, data volume, concurrency).\nNative Mobile Production Experience: Deep expertise in either iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) or Android (Kotlin/Compose), with at least one app you personally shipped to the App Store or Google Play and maintained post-launch.\nFull-Lifecycle Mobile/Backend Integration: Hands-on experience designing robust client-server protocols (offline behavior, push/pull sync mechanisms, idempotency keys, token management).\nRelational Database Expertise: Advanced proficiency in PostgreSQL beyond basic ORMs (complex queries, indexing, data modeling, schema migrations).\nProduction Operations: Hands-on experience on-call for systems you personally built and deployed.\nModern Tooling: Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) with a highly critical lens-you carefully review, refactor, and reject substandard generated code rather than blindly merging it.\nCommunication: Exceptional written English for technical design documents, RFCs, and code reviews.\nExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills.\nStrong communication and teamwork abilities.\nFlexible to attend remote meetings during the evening, when required\nMust be a resident of Canada and eligible to work in Canada.\nAbility to work during Pacific Time Zone regular business hours.\nNice-to-Haves\nGo (Golang): Production experience with Go. If you don’t have it yet, you’ll pick it up on the job.\nCommunication Protocols & Messaging:gRPC, Protocol Buffers (Protobuf), and AWS messaging/event services such as Kinesis and SNS/SQS.
