Hato Hone St John is a trusted charity that provides ambulance services, first aid training, event medical services and community programmes across Aotearoa.

Ko wai mātou - About us:

Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders since 1885. Today, we have nearly 12,000 kaimahi working across Aotearoa to enhance the health and wellbeing of our communities. From responding to 111 calls to supporting people to stay healthy through health education, access and monitoring, we make a life-changing difference every day.

He aha te tūranga- About the role:

It's easy to become isolated when partners and friends pass on or when family members don't live close by. And if you're unable to get out or you're unwell, it can be hard to meet people. Just having someone ask about your day can make all the difference to how you're feeling. Looking forward to a good conversation can really brighten up the day.

Our Caring Caller programme is a telephone friendship service. We match volunteers with clients around the country who would benefit from regular connection.

This volunteer Team Leader position is integral in ensuring our programme provides both our volunteers and clients with a seamless experience, by supporting our incredible Caring Caller volunteers. We are looking for a new Team Leader to support our Nelson team.

The role involves:

  • Attraction, recruitment, and training of new volunteers
  • Providing support and mentoring advice to your team of volunteers
  • Ensuring all clients are receiving compatible matches that are meeting their needs
  • Providing reporting to relevant St John staff
  • Maintaining strong relationships with local Area Committee and attend meetings as required/invited
  • Organising recognition events, meetings, and training for the team

Please note, this is an unpaid, voluntary position.

Ko wai koe - About you:

This role is flexible and can work around your availability, ideally you will be able to commit at least 2-3 hours per week. You have the option of joining as a Caring Caller and being matched with suitable client/s however, this is not mandatory.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Excellent communication skills, an empathetic personality, and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
  • Previous team management experience
  • Administration experience
  • Competent computer skills
  • Over 18 years of age
