Job Summary
Technical L3 Application Support & Enhancement Lead
responsible for the deepest tier of technical support and continuous enhancement of IKEA’s proprietary WMS, MHS (Möbelhus System).
MHS is a highly mission-critical, high-performance system relying on a robust technical architecture composed of C/C++, Pascal, and PostgreSQL databases, with DEC Forms driving the user interface layer in parallel execution sessions. In this role, you will investigate complex production anomalies, delivering critical hotfixes, and develops functional enhancements. Objective is to guarantee 24/7 operational continuity while adapting MHS to evolving fulfillment requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Key leadership responsibilities-
- Incident & Problem Management: Take ultimate ownership of high-severity (P1/P2) incident escalations affecting warehouse fulfillment. Drive root-cause analysis (RCA) and ensure permanent fixes are deployed.
- Enhancement Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of small-to-medium functional enhancements, ensuring code modifications do not introduce regression risks to core warehouse logic.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Alignment: Partner closely with Fulfillment Unit Operations, L2 Support, Infrastructure teams, and product owners to prioritize the application backlog and bug-fix queue.
Functional & Technical responsibilities-
L3 Production Support & Deep-Dive Triage:
- Parallel Session Debugging: Lead the debugging of complex application states where DEC Forms UI sessions run in parallel execution with underlying Pascal modules.
- Database Performance Tuning: Investigate complex transactional bottlenecks, deadlocks, and query performance degradation within the PostgreSQL data layer.
- Hotfix Engineering: Write, test, and safely package code-level hotfixes in Pascal to resolve critical system failures without disrupting active warehouse flows.
Continuous Enhancements & Code Modernization:
- Feature Development: Design and implement application enhancements to optimize warehouse picking, packing, put-away, and material handling logic within MHS.
- Refactoring & Optimization: Identify legacy code paths (Pascal/C) or inefficient DEC Forms workflows that can be refactored to improve processing speeds and system reliability.
- System Integration: Maintain and enhance interfaces linking MHS to modern edge APIs, automation hardware (PLCs), and broader IKEA supply chain ecosystems.
Skill Requirements
- Core Languages: Deep proficiency in Pascal programming, including compiling, linking, and runtime debugging on enterprise server environments.
- Database Mastery: Strong advanced PostgreSQL skills (complex stored procedures, query optimization, transactional safety, and relational schema management).
- UI Frameworks: Experience or strong conceptual familiarity with DEC Forms (or equivalent forms-based UI processing systems) and managing their active parallel execution sessions with back-end modules.
- Environment Knowledge: Familiarity with OpenVMS, Linux, or Unix-like systems where such compiled applications and terminal-based forms typically reside.
