This role will work closely with Payroll, Finance, Accounting, HR, IT, and implementation teams to define, design, validate, and support the processes required to accurately translate payroll results into financial accounting transactions.\nThe Functional Lead will serve as the primary functional subject matter expert for UKG General Ledger processes, including payroll costing, labor distribution, account mapping, organizational and costing structures, journal entry requirements, reconciliation, and downstream integration with enterprise financial systems.\nThis role is expected to lead requirements gathering, solution design, testing, issue resolution, and stakeholder coordination while providing direction to offshore techno-functional and technical resources.\nKey Responsibilities\nKey Responsibilities\nLead functional design and implementation activities related to UKG payroll-to-General Ledger processes.\nPartner with Payroll, Finance, Accounting, HR, and IT stakeholders to document current-state and future-state payroll accounting requirements.\nDefine requirements for:Payroll costing and labor distribution.\nGeneral Ledger account structures and mappings.\nCompany, business unit, department, cost center, location, project, and other accounting dimensions.\nEarnings, deductions, taxes, employer liabilities, benefits, and other payroll-related accounting transactions.\nDebit and credit rules.\nJournal entry creation and balancing.\nRetroactive payroll and adjustment accounting.\nOff-cycle payroll accounting.\nPayroll corrections and reversals.\n\nTranslate Finance and Accounting requirements into UKG functional configuration and integration requirements.\nLead design workshops and facilitate decisions regarding payroll accounting and GL processing.\nEvaluate existing GL processes and identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, or improve controls.\nDefine GL mapping rules and coordinate their implementation within UKG and downstream financial systems.\nEnsure payroll accounting results accurately reconcile to payroll registers, tax results, funding requirements, and financial system postings.\nDevelop and maintain functional design documents, process flows, mapping documents, configuration specifications, and reconciliation requirements.\nProvide functional direction to UKG techno-functional and technical consultants.\nCoordinate with ERP and Finance technology teams responsible for systems such as SAP, Oracle, Workday Financials, PeopleSoft, or other financial platforms.\nLead functional validation of payroll-to-GL interfaces.\nDefine test scenarios and expected results for unit testing, system integration testing, parallel payroll testing, regression testing, and user acceptance testing.\nReview GL output for accuracy, completeness, balancing, and proper accounting treatment.\nLead investigation and resolution of payroll-to-GL defects and reconciliation differences.\nSupport cutover, deployment, hypercare, and production stabilization activities.\nEstablish repeatable reconciliation and operational support procedures for ongoing payroll accounting.\nSupport internal and external audit requirements by ensuring appropriate controls, documentation, traceability, and evidence are maintained.\nServe as the primary escalation point for functional GL-related issues.\nSkill Requirements\n10+ years of experience working with payroll, payroll accounting, HRIS, HCM, or workforce management solutions.\nStrong hands-on experience with UKG Pro Payroll or related UKG payroll solutions.\nDemonstrated experience with payroll General Ledger processes and payroll accounting.\nStrong understanding of:Payroll costing.\nLabor distribution.\nGL account mapping.\nChart of accounts structures.\nDebit and credit accounting.\nJournal entries.\nPayroll accruals and liabilities.\nPayroll reconciliation.\n\nExperience designing or supporting integrations between UKG and enterprise financial systems.\nExperience leading requirements gathering, functional design, testing, and production deployment.\nAbility to translate accounting requirements into system and integration designs.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work effectively with Finance, Payroll, HR, Accounting, IT, and external implementation partners.\nExperience coordinating onshore and offshore delivery teams.\nAbility to work independently and lead complex cross-functional initiatives.\nOther Requirements\nExperience with UKG Pro integrations and payroll export capabilities.\nExperience with SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Workday Financials, or another enterprise ERP/financial platform.\nExperience supporting global or multi-company payroll environments.\nExperience with payroll implementations, transformations, conversions, or major system upgrades.\nUnderstanding of financial controls, audit requirements, and segregation-of-duties principles.\nExperience developing payroll-to-GL reconciliation frameworks and operational
