Candidates must be interested in analog electronics, creative, self-motivated, and able to apply their knowledge to solve challenging technical problems.\nOur team is responsible for developing designs for a variety of advanced systems including missiles, radars, aircraft, launchers, etc. Mechanical engineers will support product packaging, complete component and material analyses, develop and maintain technical documentation, support failure investigations, and collaborate closely with electrical engineers on product development.\nWork with cross-functional teams on new product development and internal R&D activities.\nDesign enclosures, structures, cooling systems, components, assemblies, assembly fixtures, and/or test fixtures using applicable military and industry standards and specifications.\nLead design reviews of detailed models, drawings, BOMs, and other engineering documents to ensure successful manufacturing and implementation of HDL products.\nDevelop new processes and streamline existing HDL manufacturing practices to support the acquisition of new business.\nModify existing products to meet internal or external customer requirements.\nPerform thermal and structural finite element analysis on components and assemblies to ensure design compliance with customer requirements. Confirm model validity with test data and relevant hand calculations when appropriate.\nCreate test apparatuses and procedures for HDL products. Analyze and review test data against HDL and customer expectations, iterate test parameters, and present test results to HDL technical staff and customers. \nPresent mechanical designs during customer-facing reviews.\nCoordinate with HDL production and machine shop teams to support manufacturing requirements.\nProvide technical support to customers and associates.\nMaintain a detailed record of progress for each project.\nWear personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.\nAll other tasks as assigned.\nRequirements\nUS Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.\nAbility to work onsite full-time is required.\nBS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.\nMinimum 2 years of related experience.\n3D CAD modeling experience; Autodesk Inventor preferred.\nExcellent time management with the ability to multitask and prioritize work.\nAttention to detail and problem-solving skills.\nProven organizational skills with mindfulness, and the ability to self-check, self-manage, prioritize initiatives, and work well in a team environment.\nPositive demeanor and outlook.\nA creative mind with a desire to suggest improvements and new ideas.\nAbility to comprehend and apply military and industry standards.\nAbility to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.\nSuperior writing, listening, and verbal communication skills.\nEnjoys hands-on work in a lab environment.\nPreferred, But Not Required:\nKnowledge of ANSYS, ANSYS APDL, or equivalent FEA (Abaqus, MSC Nastran/Patran).\nKnowledge of ASME drafting standards, particularly GD&T per ASME Y14.5.\nProficiency in MATLAB or Python.\nExperience working with formed sheet metal parts and circuit card assemblies.\nExperience designing ruggedized, highly-reliable electromechanical systems capable of surviving harsh environments (e.g., high-g, high vibration, high and low temperature).\nExperience with the design, fabrication, and assembly of proof-of-concept models. \nPortfolio of past work/projects.\n Why Join Us?\nWith over 40 years of experience in the defense industry, HDL Research Lab's mission is to design and build high quality custom power electronics for military and aerospace applications.
