HDR is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Transportation Business Group in NY/NJ. They will typically work under and with Senior Geotechnical staff and be responsible for the geotechnical analysis and design or the interpretation and understanding of subsurface conditions of infrastructure projects including but not limited to roadways, retaining walls, bridges, buildings, dams, soils and rock slopes, etc. Opportunities will exist to participate on high profile infrastructure projects in the Northeast and across the United States. They will also develop subsurface investigation and laboratory testing plans, review boring logs and laboratory data, and design plans for a variety of geotechnical tasks such as slope stability, driven piles and drilled shafts, and also provide project specific analysis/evaluation for sites with seismic considerations, including slide remediation, ground improvement, and others. They will prepare geotechnical reports and also expect to coordinate with project managers to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Civil Engineering, with a concentration on Geotechnical Engineering
  • 5 years of geotechnical-related engineering experience, including but not limited to slope stability analysis, settlement assessments, shallow and deep foundation design, retaining wall design, interpretation of soil/rock subsurface data to develop design parameters, development of technical memos and/or reports, providing field supervision where needed, and management of field exploration programs
  • Experience with GeoStudio, Ensoft (LPILE, APILE, GROUP), Settle3, DeepEx, PLAXIS, and other industry standard software
  • Experience with Bentley suite of geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog)
  • Willing to travel throughout the NY/NJ area
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office applications, MicroStation or other software as appropriate
  • Experience with GeoStudio/Ensoft slope stability, settlement, seepage and deep foundation response software, as appropriate
  • Experience with Bentley suite of geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
