This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of Australia's most complex mission critical, health and building services projects while developing your career within HDR's global network of commissioning professionals.\nThe Opportunity\nAs a Commissioning Engineer - Mechanical, you will play a key role in the planning, coordination, testing and delivery of commissioning activities across a diverse portfolio of projects, with a particular focus on mission critical facilities and critical infrastructure.\nThis role is suited to a commissioning professional who can work independently on site, actively contribute to project delivery, and confidently engage with contractors, vendors, consultants and client teams throughout the commissioning process.\nAustralian Citizenship Requirement\nDue to the nature of our current and future project portfolio, Australian Citizenship is a mandatory requirement for this position. Candidates must also be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance, with the ability to obtain higher levels of clearance if required.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nYou will:\nDeliver commissioning services across all phases of project execution, from planning and testing through to final handover.\nPrepare, review and implement Commissioning Management Plans (CMPs), test procedures and commissioning documentation.\nReview contractor, subcontractor and vendor commissioning plans, test scripts and energisation plans.\nParticipate in and lead Factory Witness Tests (FWTs), Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), site inspections and functional performance testing.\nExecute and oversee commissioning activities from installation verification through to integrated systems testing and handover.\nTroubleshoot mechanical system issues and work collaboratively with project stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges.\nMaintain commissioning records, issue registers and project reporting.\nCoordinate commissioning activities with contractors, consultants, vendors and facility operators.\nLead and participate in commissioning meetings while contributing to project planning, risk management and resolution of technical issues.\nPrepare and review final commissioning reports, test documentation and handover packages.\nPromote quality, safety and continuous improvement across all commissioning activities.\nWhat Makes This Role Different?\nWorking within HDR's growing national commissioning team, you'll gain exposure to some of the most technically challenging projects in Australia while collaborating with globally recognised commissioning experts.\nYou'll have the opportunity to work across:\nMission critical and data centre facilities\nHVAC and critical cooling systems\nChilled water, condenser water and hydronic systems\nComputer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) systems\nCoolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems\nAir and water Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB)\nSmoke control and pressurisation systems\nFire protection and hydraulic services systems\nBuilding Management Systems (BMS), EPMS and critical environmental control systems\nHealthcare and other complex critical infrastructure projects\nWhat You'll Bring\nWe're looking for someone who is:\nPassionate about commissioning and technical problem solving.\nAble to work autonomously while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.\nProactive, organised and willing to take ownership of commissioning outcomes.\nSafety-focused with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.\nComfortable working in fast-paced project environments and managing competing priorities.\nIdeally, You'll Have\nA tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.\nAlternatively, a mechanical trade background with demonstrated commissioning experience.\nDemonstrated experience delivering commissioning activities within building services, mission critical, healthcare or related environments.\nStrong knowledge of mechanical building systems including HVAC, chilled water, hydronic, fire protection and critical cooling systems.\nExperience conducting equipment inspections, Factory Witness Tests (FWTs) and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).\nExperience supporting or delivering site-based commissioning activities on complex projects.\nStrong troubleshooting and analytical skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nExperience working within data centres, healthcare facilities or other critical environments will be highly regarded.\nExperience using commissioning management systems and Microsoft Project will be advantageous.\nA willingness to travel to project sites as required.\nProfessional commissioning accreditations such as ACG CxA, CSA, BCxA, ASHRAE BCxP, Green Star AP or LEED are highly regarded.\nWhy Join HDR?\nEmployee ownership - be part of a company where our people have a direct stake in our success.\nMajor project exposure - work on complex mission critical and critical infrastructure projects shaping Australia's future.\nCareer development - gain mentoring, training and support through HDR's global commissioning network.\nCollaborative culture - work with talented multidisciplinary teams who value technical excellence and innovation.\nGlobal expertise - collaborate with HDR's internationally recognised mission critical and commissioning specialists.\nAt HDR, we believe that the way we work matters.
