Reporting to the Architectural Lead Engineer, this role will own technical direction for assigned teams or workstreams while continuing to contribute directly to implementation.\nThis is not a whiteboard-only architecture role. The successful candidate will lead technical planning, make solution-level design decisions, guide offshore development teams, review code, troubleshoot complex issues, and write production code when needed. We are continuing to scale our technology organization, platforms, and integration capabilities to support growth, innovation, and operational excellence.\nQualifications\nWhat You'll Do\nTechnical Ownership & Solution Design\nOwn solution design and technical decisions for an assigned team, product area, or workstream within established HealthEZ architecture standards.\nTranslate business and technical requirements into implementable designs covering application components, APIs, data flows, integrations, dependencies, and system boundaries.\nLead technical planning before implementation begins, identifying risks, sequencing, dependencies, trade-offs, and key engineering decisions.\nCreate practical architecture diagrams and technical documentation sufficient for development and support.\nHands-On Engineering & Code Quality\nContribute directly to application and integration development, particularly complex, high-risk, or foundational work.\nPerform pull requests and code reviews and provide actionable feedback on quality, maintainability, security, testing, and consistency.\nPrototype technical approaches and troubleshoot complex issues across applications, APIs, data, integrations, and Azure services.\nModel strong engineering practices and help move work from task-level development toward greater engineering ownership.\nOffshore Development Team Leadership\nProvide clear day-to-day technical direction to offshore development teams and technical leads.\nEnsure teams understand the architecture, design intent, implementation approach, and quality expectations before development begins.\nResolve implementation questions and challenge approaches that create unnecessary complexity, security risk, operational fragility, or architectural drift.\nIdentify recurring quality or capability gaps and work with engineering leadership to address them.\nArchitecture, Integration & Security\nApply and reinforce architecture standards, escalating decisions with broader platform, security, data, or long-term implications.\nDesign secure, reliable, supportable APIs and integrations using clear contracts, versioning, validation, error handling, retry behavior, idempotency, and observability.\nWork across modern API/event-driven integrations as well as healthcare file, batch, EDI, and vendor-specific interfaces.\nBuild security, least-privilege access, PHI/PII protection, logging, monitoring, traceability, and auditability into solution design and implementation.\nFavor reuse, standardization, and incremental modernization over unnecessary new technologies, point-to-point integrations, or large rewrites.\nWhat We Expect From You\nExperience & Technical Expertise\n6+ years of professional software engineering experience with increasing responsibility for technical design and engineering leadership.\nStrong recent hands-on experience with C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core; this role is not intended for someone who has moved entirely away from coding.\nExperience owning technical direction for a product area, project, development team, or significant workstream.\nStrong experience with REST APIs, distributed systems, SQL Server, Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, Git/PR workflows, and CI/CD.\nExperience with Angular and/or React and integrating with external platforms, APIs, and file-based interfaces.\nExperience working with distributed, offshore, or outsourced development teams strongly preferred.\nEngineering Judgment & Leadership\nStrong understanding of API design, service boundaries, integration architecture, authentication/authorization, resiliency, observability, secure software design, and automated testing.\nAbility to make pragmatic technical decisions independently while recognizing when broader architectural review is required.\nAbility to lead through influence, give clear technical direction, and hold development teams accountable to engineering standards.\nStrong communication and documentation skills, including the ability to challenge weak approaches and propose lower-risk alternatives.\nNice to Have\nHealthcare payer, TPA, claims administration, eligibility, benefits, or healthcare EDI experience.\nExperience with healthcare technology vendors, clearinghouses, HL7/FHIR, or high-volume file/batch integrations.\nFamiliarity with Microsoft Fabric, SSIS/ETL pipelines, SSRS, or Crystal Reports.\nWe make healthcare EZ!\nAdditional Opportunity Details:\nTarget Base Compensation Range for this role is $110,000-$160,000*\n*Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role. *\nEmployee benefits are part of the competitive total rewards package that HealthEZ provides to you.
