At Heidelberg Materials, we're looking for a motivated Concrete Plant Apprentice to join our team and gain industry-recognised qualifications while earning and learning.\nThis is an exciting opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to become a key part of a busy concrete production operation. Through a structured apprenticeship programme and day-release college attendance, you'll gain hands-on experience in site operations, concrete manufacturing, plant maintenance, health and safety, environmental management, and quality control.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nPhase 1: Learning the Fundamentals of Site Operations\nYou'll develop a strong understanding of how a modern concrete plant operates, including:\nUnderstanding site layout, storage areas, drainage systems, traffic management, and safe working practices.\n\nOperating a wheeled loading shovel to transport and load materials into the plant.\n\nCarrying out routine housekeeping duties to keep the site safe, clean, and organised.\n\nAssisting with plant maintenance and inspections.\n\nSupporting the safe and efficient running of the site in line with Health & Safety and environmental legislation.\n\nPhase 2: Developing Concrete Production Expertise\nAs your confidence grows, you'll learn how high-quality concrete is produced by:\nOperating computerised batching systems.\n\nProducing concrete to industry quality standards and QSRMC requirements.\n\nSupporting compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards.\n\nAssisting with plant servicing and preventative maintenance activities.\n\nCompleting operational, environmental, and health and safety documentation.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nAs a Concrete Plant Apprentice, you will:\nLoad aggregate bins using a loading shovel.\n\nSupport routine plant inspections and maintenance activities.\n\nKeep plant equipment, buildings, and work areas clean, safe, and well maintained.\n\nAssist with environmental controls, including waste management, dust suppression, and water discharge monitoring.\n\nHelp ensure sufficient stock levels are available to meet production requirements.\n\nLearn how to inspect incoming materials and carry out stock checks.\n\nSupport continuous improvement initiatives across the site.\n\nWork closely with the Plant Supervisor to identify and report defects.\n\nComplete maintenance records and operational documentation accurately.\n\nReport any issues affecting safety, quality, customer service, or environmental performance.\n\nFollow Heidelberg Materials policies and procedures at all times.\n\nUndertake any additional duties appropriate to the apprenticeship programme and training objectives.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nWe're looking for individuals who:\nEnjoy practical, hands-on work.\n\nHave a positive attitude and willingness to learn.\n\nCan work safely and follow procedures.\n\nHave good communication and teamwork skills.\n\nAre reliable, motivated, and committed to completing an apprenticeship programme.\n\nAre interested in construction materials, manufacturing, engineering, or operations.\n\nEssential Requirements\nGCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent.\n\nFull UK Driving Licence.\n\nAbility to travel to college on a day-release basis and attend site each day.\n\nWhat You'll Gain\nA nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification.\n\nHands-on experience in a leading construction materials business.\n\nTraining on industry-standard plant equipment and technology.\n\nSupport from experienced mentors and operational leaders.\n\nOpportunities for long-term career progression within Heidelberg Materials.\n\nA strong foundation in health and safety, quality, environmental management, and operational excellence.\n\nWhy Heidelberg Materials?\nAt Heidelberg Materials, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
