This role is for a hands-on builder who thrives at the intersection of data engineering, software architecture, and pragmatic problem solving. You’ll design and scale the systems that ensure our data is trustworthy, accessible, and ready to power everything from day-to-day operations to next-generation AI applications. While this is not a people manager role, you will serve as a technical leader on the team, raising the bar on engineering fundamentals and helping shape the long-term direction of our data ecosystem. You will be part of a skilled, passionate, and collaborative team committed to working together to realize Hopscotch’s ambitious and important vision. \nRESPONSIBILITIES \nArchitect, build, and maintain our data model, data pipelines, and data access layer that support our care delivery, operations, and analytics in collaboration with the data platform team. \nOwn the end-to-end lifecycle of data pipelines that enable key business operations, support third-party integrations, and ensure timely, accurate data delivery across internal and external platforms.\nEnsure data quality & governance: implement practices that make our data trustworthy and usable for all stakeholders, from clinicians to operators. \nMonitor and optimize data infrastructure: troubleshoot issues, improve system performance, and drive efficiency through automation and process enhancements. \nLead with technical depth: review code and set engineering best practices across the team. \nThink big picture: design today’s infrastructure with tomorrow’s needs in mind, laying the foundation for high quality workflow enhancements as well as advanced analytics and AI.\nContribute where business needs are highest: flex across the stack, from backend data engineering to occasional contributions in frontend applications that bring data to life\n Collaborate with cross-functional teams: work with product managers, analytics, operations, and care delivery stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions. \n\nABOUT YOU\nYou would be a great fit for this position if you: \nHave an ownership mentality; take high-level business and technical challenges, frame them into actionable work, and deliver solutions with minimal oversight.\nAre customer-focused with a passion for serving patients and providers who make healthcare possible\nAre results-driven, focusing time and resources against the most important priorities\nComfortable with ambiguity and bring a structured, proactive approach to executing\nEnergized by building relationships and finding creative solutions\nArticulate and succinct with communication about complex concepts, both verbally and in writing\nFrom a cultural perspective, you are:\nAgile, yet thoughtful, and can work effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment · Constantly seeking ways to simplify and improve how things are done, bringing a positive attitude to challenges\nAlways looking for ways to modernize our stack, testing out the limits of new technologies, and applying new technologies to solve problems where applicable\nAccountable, holding yourself, and others, to a high standard\nSupportive of teammates and aim to share knowledge with others\nWilling to roll up your sleeves to get work done and collaborate effectively with people of all backgrounds\nADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field\n4+ years of professional experience in data engineering and software architecture shipping production level code, preferably in healthcare services\nStrong programming skills (Python, Pyspark, or similar) with proven experience in building and scaling reusable, testable, and maintainable data pipelines\nExperience designing and optimizing data models, warehouses, and/or lakehouses\nFamiliarity with modern data platforms and cloud ecosystems (ex. Palantir Foundry, DBT, Databricks, Snowflake, AWS/GCP/Azure).\nTrack record of ensuring data quality, governance, and reliability\nAbility to balance high-level architecture with tactical execution\nIn accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Act, we’re providing the full salary range for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, relevant experience and qualifications. Most offers will fall within a portion of the listed range. This position has a salary range of $140,000-170,000 annually, based on location, relevant experience and qualifications.
