We build software where agents do real work, not systems with a chat window bolted onto the side.\n\nWe’re looking for a freelance engineer whose home ground is the agentic layer: tools, context, memory, orchestration, and the evaluations that tell you whether any of it actually works.\n\nWhy HelsinkiTech\n\nWe’re a young startup with big ambitions, and we aim to grow fast. There’s no heavy process here. You get free hands, room for your own ideas, and a real say in how HelsinkiTech grows. What you build goes live in real Finnish companies, and the best ideas get used.\n\nWhat defines this role\n\nSafe by design. Nothing important happens without human approval, and security comes first. You build systems clients can trust.\n\nWhat you will do\n\nBuild agentic systems as the core of client software\n\nDesign agentic workflows: tool design, context, memory, planning and orchestration. Use multi-agent setups only when the problem truly calls for them.\n\nDecide where the agent ends and deterministic code begins. Not everything should be an agent, and knowing the difference is a big part of the job.\n\nDesign the guardrails and human oversight a system needs to be trusted in production. Treat cost, scalability and reliability as design questions, not later fixes.\n\nBuild and run the evaluations\n\nSet up evals that test quality, catch regressions, and track performance against cost: accuracy, drift, correction rate.\n\nTreat evals as part of the system, not a report at the end. If we can’t measure whether the agent got better, we don’t know whether it did.\n\nWhat you bring\n\nYou don’t need every item. Be confident in several and willing to learn the rest.\n\nAgentic engineering\n\nHands-on experience building agentic systems (tools, context, memory, planning, orchestration). Your opinions come from things breaking in real projects.\n\nPractical experience building and running AI evaluations, and the judgment to weigh quality against cost.\n\nDaily fluency with coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar), well beyond prompting: skills, subagents, parallel runs, and a sense of what to delegate and what to verify yourself.\n\nSoftware engineering\n\nExperience with at least one major cloud (Azure, GCP or AWS), including infrastructure, access and governance.\n\nEnough backend and frontend skill to take a system from architecture to interface without a finished spec.\n\nPractical experience with data pipelines.\n\nLLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini), RAG and vector databases.\n\nGit, testing and clean code.\n\nSecurity\n\nNecessary: deep understanding of cybersecurity and of building secure agents.\n\nMindset\n\nWe’re looking for someone creative, positive and growth-minded.\n\nYou like working close to the people who use what you build.\n\nYou can read a client’s business well enough to make good calls without a full spec.\n\nYou ship early, test with real users, and change direction when new information says so.\n\nYou’re comfortable with ambiguity and unfinished things.\n\nYou’re straightforward and easy to work with in a small, evolving company.\n\nYou’re willing to say “not yet” or “AI isn’t the answer here.”\n\nPracticalities\n\nFreelance, per-project contract.
