We aim to debottleneck the growth of electricity generation and consumption with scalable, innovative, and less costly hardware solutions, accelerating the electrification of everything.\nOur first goal is to build better converters (inverters & rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads to the grid. Heron’s leadership team is made up of seasoned veterans who have designed and shipped gigawatts of power conversion products over the past decade.\nWe understand that no one individual knows everything. We will all learn a lot together and from each other. We strive to build a collaborative, enriching environment conducive to personal, technical, and career growth. You can expect to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, driven by first principles engineering, solving difficult problems.\nJob Overview\nAs a power electronics controls engineer, you will be responsible for dynamic modeling, controller design, implementation, and validation for power converters. Additionally, you will be responsible for system analysis and integration.\nHow You Will Contribute\nEvaluate system-level requirements and translate to dynamic performance and controls specs\n\nAnalyze and model candidate converter topologies and architectures, and work with the hardware team to evaluate engineering trade-offs\n\nOutline and design controller architecture to achieve design and dynamic objectives\n\nPerform failure-mode & effects analysis (FMEA) to discover design weaknesses and devise mitigation strategies\n\nStudy and analyze compliance requirements for grid-codes (IEEE2800, UL1741) and protection schemes (arc-fault, ground-fault, etc.)\n\nCapture controller design in Matlab/Simulink\n\nPerform small-signal modeling aimed at tuning and stabilizing controller responses\n\nOutline microcontroller requirements and evaluate offerings\n\nReview electrical schematics and suggest changes to ensure signal acquisition and the plant are well-designed to handle transients and edge-cases\n\nTranslate algorithms from Simulink into embedded code (in C language)\n\nCreate and utilize hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) setups for validation\n\nWork with hardware team to perform prototype bring-up and validation\n\nCreate and execute dynamic stress-test plans\n\nDesign and support special behaviors required for thermal, reliability, and compliance tests\n\nDesign and support special behaviors required for end-of-line testing for volume production\n\nReview and analyze fleet data, and devise performance improvement and failure mitigation strategies\n\nAs a startup, we expect individuals to engage and overlap with teams with adjacent skill-sets. Expect to overlap both with circuit-design engineers and firmware engineers as needed.\n\nWhat You Will Bring\nWe have a short list of must-have requirements. We prioritize a strong grip on first principles, hands-on skills, and a sense of initiative. Domain-specific knowledge and experience will help determine the career level for each hire.\nMust-Have Requirements\nAt least a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of experience\n\nStrong electrical engineering fundamentals\n\nFamiliarity with simple power conversion topologies\n\nUnderstanding of dynamic models and control systems\n\nAbility to write and troubleshoot C-code\n\nHands-on circuit troubleshooting experience\n\nNice-to-Haves\nExperience with resonant converter topologies and controls\n\nExperience with design and controls of grid-tied inverter systems\n\nFamiliarity with modular architectures and/or multi-level topologies\n\nFamiliarity with grid-code requirements such as IEEE1547, IEEE2800, UL1741, or equivalent\n\nEmbedded coding and troubleshooting experience\n\nExperience in high-volume production and support\n\nFamiliarity with power system modeling, operation, and common protection techniques\n\nExperience with PV conversion systems including maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and arc-fault detection\n\nIf you are passionate about technology and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you. Join us in accelerating the electrification of everything at Heron Power.\nHeron Power provides competitive compensation (salary and equity) and benefits. The salary for this role ranges from $120,000 to $200,000 per year.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4360,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Electrical & Electronic Engineering","Power Grid","Power Supplies & Power Electronics"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-11-02T09:17:33Z"},{"event":"close","at":"2026-11-04T03:20:06Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":null,"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":200000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/heron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/heron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-04T09:30:58Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":14849,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-05T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":5370},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=5370"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fheron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fheron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fheron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/heron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fheron-power-power-electronics-controls-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3601294}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"heronpower.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3601294},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
