You’ll work in a fast-moving, deeply technical environment where ownership and impact are real.\nJob Overview\nAs a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, you will contribute to building scalable Connected Systems software, including telemetry pipelines, fleet management, system fault analysis, diagnostics, configuration management, and secure firmware updates for grid-connected energy systems.\nYou will participate in design, build, and operation of key components of Heron Power's Connected Systems platform. You'll work across edge devices, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, backend services, and user-facing applications used to monitor, diagnose, and operate grid-connected energy systems.\nYou will own meaningful components and services, contribute to production-critical capabilities, and collaborate closely with embedded, hardware, test, manufacturing, and frontend engineers to help deliver reliable, secure, and scalable end-to-end systems.\nWe're looking for a hands-on engineer who builds production software, solving complex distributed systems problems, and working across multiple engineering disciplines. You have experience delivering substantial software systems and owning technical outcomes from component design through operation.\nWhy This Role Is Different\nThis role owns critical components of larger software platform that enables smart functionality across Heron products and systems. You will create software that will run on energy-critical infrastructure deployed in challenging environments with limited connectivity and limited access. You will contribute to enabling Heron Care - industry first support and maintenance program ensuring continuous unit operation and supportability for extended periods of time. You will work on data systems that capture fleet-scale telemetry since device inception through decades of field operations.\nHow You Will Contribute\nCore Responsibilities\nBuild scalable backend services and data platforms for industrial IoT deployments.\n\nBuild telemetry ingestion, processing, storage, and analytics pipelines supporting fleet monitoring and system fault analysis.\n\nDevelop services and workflows for diagnostics, remote troubleshooting, asset lifecycle tracking, and over-the-air firmware updates.\n\nImplement APIs, event-driven services, and data models that enable reliable integration across Connected Systems, Firmware, Manufacturing, and System Test.\n\nContribute to software quality through code reviews, testing strategies, observability, and operational excellence.\n\nCollaboration\nWork closely with embedded software engineers on Cabinet Gateway integration, telemetry collection, and firmware management.\n\nCollaborate with Manufacturing and System Test teams to improve data availability, traceability, and operational workflows.\n\nPartner with DevOps and infrastructure teams on CI/CD, deployment automation, and observability.\n\nSupport development of customer-facing tools and dashboards for monitoring system performance and health.\n\nShare technical input with engineering leadership on roadmap and prioritization decisions.\n\nWhat You Will Bring\nMust-Have Requirements\n7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of significant components of a distributed system.\n\nExperience contributing to complex software products from design through production deployment.\n\nExperience building, or contributing to, industrial IoT, telemetry, fleet management, or other large-scale connected systems.\n\nStrong experience designing and implementing backend services in Python, Golang, Rust, Java, or similar languages.\n\nExperience building telemetry ingestion, stream processing, or event-driven systems using Kafka or cloud-native equivalents.\n\nSolid understanding of APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platform design.\n\nExperience collaborating across firmware, hardware, manufacturing, test, and software teams.\n\nStrong debugging and problem-solving skills in production environments.\n\nNice to Have\nExperience with fault detection, diagnostics, or prognostics systems.\n\nFamiliarity with industrial networking, SCADA, or edge computing architectures.\n\nExperience with frontend technologies such as React.\n\nExperience building systems supporting remote device management and firmware updates.\n\nIf you are passionate about technology and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you.
