This role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing Data Plane layer of the Software Defined Networking (SDN) enhancements to VM Essentials customers in highly scalable, enterprise private cloud-based, distributed architectures.\nWhat you’ll do:\nDesign, and development of the HPE SDN Data Plane for VM Essentials, covering Layer 2/3 networking, distributed routing and switching, overlays, tunneling, and high-performance packet forwarding.\nDefine scalable interfaces and programming models across configuration, control, and data planes for routes, next hops, interfaces, VRFs, bridge domains, MAC/IP entries, tunnels, multicast state, and related forwarding objects.\nDesign state synchronization, reconciliation, reconnect, warm-restart, upgrade, and recovery mechanisms that preserve forwarding consistency and minimize traffic disruption.\nExtend EVPN, VLAN, VXLAN, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6, bridging, MAC/IP learning, integrated routing and bridging, multi-homing, BUM forwarding, and overlay/underlay capabilities.\nOptimize packet processing with DPDK, Linux networking, SR--IOV, hardware acceleration and interfaces such as veth, virtio, vhost-user, and TAP/TUN.\nImprove throughput, latency, CPU and memory efficiency, and route, MAC, flow, tunnel, and compute-node scale.\nRoot-cause analysis across configuration, control, and data planes for forwarding failures, stale state, race conditions, crashes, memory issues, and performance regressions.\nPartner with routing, virtualization, compute, cloud-platform, product, QA, systems engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver reliable and scalable capabilities.\nCollaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (Configuration and Control path) to ensure seamless integration\nOpportunity to work with some of the networking gurus who have developed and authored cutting-edge solutions for ever evolving access network.\n What you need to bring:\nBachelor’s OR master’s degree in computer-science or related field.\nExcellent network software design capabilities, C/C++ programming, debugging skills and a strong systems programming background\n5+ years of experience in developing new features and bug fixing on complex products in networking domain. \nKnowledge of L2 (EVPN, VLAN, VXLAN) and L3 (eBGP, iBGP, MP-BGP, MPLS) \nExperience with routing, DPDK and Kernel Forwarding Plane, Tunnel using MPLSoUDP, MPLSoGRE and VxLan\nExperience with XMPP, BGP, iBGP and NetConf\nKnowledge of EBPF\nExperience in debugging networking problems in complex systems involving multiple process/thread interactions including, but not limited to analysing crashes, scaling and performance issues, packet loss, memory leaks and memory corruption\nProactive mindset and strong willingness to learn in addition to ability to think out of the box and adopt new software development tools and technologies\nUnderstanding of network architecture of enterprise cloud and experience in deploying applications in Kubernetes environment is a plus.\nExperience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:\nSmartNICs, DPUs, NVIDIA BlueField/DOCA, and hardware forwarding offload.\nSegment Routing, SR-MPLS, SRV6, MPLS Layer 2/3 VPNs, BFD, PIC, TI-LFA, and fast convergence.\nNetwork telemetry, packet tracing, automated scale and performance testing, Cloud Architectures, Distributed Computing, Micro-Services Fluency, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.\nAccessibility\nHPE is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible workplace and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including those with disabilities.
