Open up opportunities with HPE.\nJob Description:\nThe Product Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design, development, qualification, and lifecycle management of packaging solutions for new and existing products. This role partners with Product Development, NPI, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Compliance, and external suppliers to create innovative packaging solutions that provide superior product protection while driving sustainability, operational efficiency, and cost reduction.\nThe engineer will lead packaging development activities from concept through production, focusing on sustainable materials, elimination of unnecessary plastics, packaging optimization, transportation efficiency, reusable packaging solutions, and global compliance requirements. This position serves as the technical packaging expert supporting worldwide manufacturing and distribution operations.\nKey Responsibilities\nPackaging Design & Development\nLead the assessment, design, development, qualification, and implementation of packaging solutions for products throughout the product lifecycle.\nReview mechanical product designs and develop packaging solutions that meet product protection, transportation, manufacturing, and customer requirements.\nCreate packaging specifications, material strategies, common packaging components, and special packaging requirements.\nAssess shock, vibration, compression, and drop performance requirements and incorporate them into packaging designs.\nCoordinate packaging development efforts with internal engineering teams, manufacturing partners, and third-party packaging suppliers.\nSupport New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and ensure packaging readiness for product launches..\nPackaging Testing & Qualification\nDevelop packaging qualification plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria.\nDesign and execute packaging verification testing, including shock, vibration, drop, environmental, and transportation testing.\nAnalyze test results and implement design improvements to ensure robust package performance.\nQualify alternative materials and packaging solutions that improve performance, sustainability, and cost.\nSustainability & Environmental Compliance.\nDrive packaging sustainability initiatives focused on:Increasing the use of environmentally friendly and recyclable materials.\nEliminating unnecessary plastics.\nReducing packaging size and weight.\nLowering transportation-related CO₂ emissions.\nReducing overall packaging waste.\n\nInvestigate and implement reusable and returnable packaging solutions where appropriate.\nMonitor emerging environmental regulations and packaging requirements to ensure uninterrupted global production and shipments.\nDevelop and execute qualification plans for alternative sustainable materials.\nTransportation & Logistics Optimization\nDevelop packaging solutions that improve transportation efficiency and reduce total logistics costs.\nOptimize carton configurations, palletization schemes, and container utilization.\nDesign bulk packaging solutions for manufacturing and distribution environments.\nCollaborate with logistics providers and supply chain partners to improve packaging performance and shipping efficiency.\nManufacturing & Supplier Management\nWork closely with manufacturing sites to ensure packaging designs support efficient assembly, pack-out, storage, and shipping processes.\nReview and respond to packaging-related production issues from factories and contract manufacturers.\nLead packaging design reviews with suppliers and manufacturing partners.\nConduct periodic visits to supplier locations to assess capabilities, quality systems, and improvement opportunities.\nProvide performance feedback and scorecard input for packaging suppliers.\nQuality & Continuous Improvement\nInvestigate packaging-related quality issues identified by customers, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and internal teams.\nPerform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.\nAnalyze customer feedback, manufacturing data, and field performance to identify opportunities for packaging improvements.\nDrive cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives without compromising product protection or quality.\nDocumentation & Process Development\nDevelop and maintain packaging standards, specifications, and ISO-compliant process documentation.\nCreate and maintain packaging design guidelines and qualification procedures.\nCommunicate project status, technical findings, compliance concerns, and recommendations to stakeholders.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.\nMinimum 4-6 years of experience in packaging engineering, product development, or related engineering roles.\nExperience designing and qualifying packaging solutions for technology, electronics, networking, telecommunications, or similar products.\nStrong understanding of packaging materials, transportation environments, and package performance testing.\nExperience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and cross-functional engineering teams.\nAdvanced English Level\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities\nDeep understanding of corrugated, molded fiber, foam, plastics, and sustainable packaging materials.\nExpertise in package testing, validation, and transportation performance requirements.\nStrong knowledge of packaging design for manufacturing, logistics, and sustainability.\nExcellent analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation skills.\nAbility to balance product protection, sustainability, customer experience, and cost objectives.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, operations, suppliers, and management.\nProficiency with engineering design and analysis tools.\nAbility to manage multiple packaging
