Open up opportunities with HPE.\nJob Description:\nAbout Our Cybersecurity Team\nAre you ready to make an impact at one of the world’s leading technology companies? HPE’s Cybersecurity team is where you can do just that. We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Application Security Engineer to join our team. If you’re passionate about shaping the future of cybersecurity and ready for your next challenge, we’d love to hear from you.\nAbout the role\nWe are hiring an Application Security Engineer to build how our enterprise secures software, from first commit to production. This is not a role for running scans and filing tickets. You will design the guardrails, automation, and AI-powered tooling that let engineering teams ship securely by default, and you will prove they work with data.\nYou will work as a peer to engineering, architecture, and DevOps leaders and own outcomes across secure SDLC, CI/CD and supply chain integrity, WAF/WAAP and API protection, and AI/LLM security. The right person sees a recurring problem and builds the capability that makes it go away.\nWhat you’ll do:\nSecure SDLC & DevSecOps\nBuild security into the SDLC as paved roads, so the secure path is the easiest path for every engineering team.\nDefine the secure coding standards and reference patterns that teams across the enterprise build against.\nBuild the vulnerability prioritization capability that shows where real risk sits across code, pipelines, and deployed services, and drive remediation to measurable closure.\nEstablish a threat modeling practice for applications, APIs, and delivery pipelines that scale beyond a single team.\nCI/CD & software supply chain security\nArchitect the security control layer for our CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps) so every pipeline inherits it by default.\nDesign the automated testing pipeline that runs SAST, DAST, SCA, and container scanning on every build, tuned for signal over noise.\nBuild the automation that keeps our attack surface visible: API discovery, dependency scanning, SBOM generation, and secrets detection.\nAI/LLM security & AI-powered automation\nBuild reusable AI agent skills and workflows inside CI/CD (e.g., agentic coding tools, MCP-based integrations) that review every pull request for insecure patterns, authN/authZ gaps, secrets exposure, and risky dependency changes, and deliver CWE/OWASP-mapped findings developers can act on.\nBuild AI-driven security testing that generates targeted test cases (API abuse cases, fuzzing inputs, prompt-injection and jailbreak suites), triages SAST/SCA/DAST results to cut false positives and proposes remediation PRs for human review.\nDefine the guardrails AI agents operate under our pipelines: least-privilege tokens, human-in-the-loop approval, output-accuracy evaluation, and audit logging.\nBuild the AI-specific scanning capability that catches insecure LLM orchestration patterns before they ship.\nEstablish a reusable threat modeling approach for RAG architectures and autonomous agents.\nDefine the framework for secure AI adoption in enterprise applications, covering data security, access controls, model input/output handling, and misuse prevention.\nFamiliarity with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph and similar orchestration frameworks\nPartnership & enablement\nDemonstrated ability to drive initiatives end-to-end, taking ownership of tasks, deliverables, and outcomes.\nShape product, platform, and DevOps roadmaps as trusted advisors, translating technical risk into business decisions.\nChoose, implement, and prove the tooling that closes the gaps we have today, with metrics that show the impact.\nGrow security capability inside engineering teams through mentoring secure coding and pipeline practices.\nHelp scale the Security Champions program into a self-sustaining network.\n\nWhat you need to bring:\n6+ years in Application Security, Product Security, or Secure Software Development, with a track record of building capabilities, not only operating them.\nHas designed security controls for CI/CD pipelines and source repositories (GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, or similar) at scale.\nHas built and tuned SAST, DAST, SCA, and container scanning, so developers trust and act on the results.\nHas built and tuned WAF and API protections and driven vulnerability remediation to closure.\nApplies SLSA and NIST SSDF to design build integrity, including secrets management and artifact signing.\nHas designed security controls in AWS, Azure, or GCP.\nDeep understanding of OWASP Top 10 (Web & API), CWE, and secure coding practices.\nWorking knowledge of OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications and MITRE ATLAS.\nPreferred\nHas built LLM-powered developer or security tooling, including prompt/skill design, tool and MCP integration, and evaluation of output quality and false-positive rates.\nHas implemented signing and provenance with Sigstore/Cosign or similar tooling.\nIntegrate SBOM generation and SCA into CI/CD workflows.\nHas deployed runtime protection (API security platforms, RASP, container EDR).\nHas built GitOps, IaC scanning (Terraform, CloudFormation), and policy-as-code guardrails.\nHas led or shaped response to software supply chain or dependency poisoning incidents.\nRelevant certifications: OSWE, CSSLP, GPCS, GWEB, GCSA.\nWrites production-quality code in at least one language (Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript/Node.js) to build automation and tooling.\nSoft skills\nInfluences developers, DevOps engineers, and leadership through clear communication and well-built tooling, not mandates.\nAutomation-first: if a task happens twice, you build the capability that removes it.\nMeasures success by outcomes, balancing security with delivery velocity.\nAccessibility\nHPE is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible workplace and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including those with disabilities. If you believe you require accommodation during any stage of the application or interview process, please submit your request by completing our secure form linked here.\nNote: This option is reserved for applicants needing assistance/reasonable accommodation related to a disability.\nWhat We Can Offer You:\nHealth & Wellbeing\nWe strive to provide our team members and their loved ones with a comprehensive suite of benefits that supports their physical, financial and emotional wellbeing.\nPersonal & Professional Development\nWe also invest in your career because the better you are, the better we all are. We have specific programs catered to helping you reach any career goals you have - whether you want to become a knowledge expert in your field or apply your skills to another division.\nUnconditional Inclusion\nWe are unconditionally inclusive in the way we work and celebrate individual uniqueness. We know varied backgrounds are valued and succeed here. We have the flexibility to manage our work and personal needs. We make bold moves, together, and are a force for good.\nLet's Stay Connected:\nFollow @HPECareers on Instagram to see the latest on people, culture and tech at HPE.\nJob:\nInformation TechnologyJob Level:\nTCP_04HPE is an Equal Employment Opportunity/ Veterans/Disabled/LGBTemployer.
